Have you experimented with dirt pedals in front?

You can get that kind of sound with a tubescreamer-type pedal in front of something like early JMP or JCM800 type of amp.

    Is the search function busted?
Because is seems to me that lately people around here sure as hell can't seem to figure out how to use it.
There are posts out there active or not.
Also if you google it (SHOCKING!!!) you'll find that LA sound design was the audio co that did the original mod....
Email em maybe they'll tell you maybe they won't.
Last BUT not Least.... while it's nice to emulate your heros... Go find your tone, with your tweak.
Color OUTSIDE the lines for once...
Punk was NEVER about being like everyone else, somehow that message has become homogenized and forgotten.
If you still feel the need to walk in someone else's creative shoes then that's yours to deal with. go join a nickelback cover band.

I know where the mod is done. I'm not stupid. I used the search bar and all the owners threads are all dead. Don't want to bring back a dead thread.

And maybe I don't plan on doing more than noodling in my bedroom with it?

I wanted updated clips. so next time, before posting ignorant posts, read the OP's post...

I have not tried that yet. I'm purchasing a Ceriatone 1987x in the near future. I'm 100% getting the mod, but I could try the tube screamer first I guess. I'm not a fan of pedals, as I use a BD-2 as a volume/slight gain boost.

As far as the mod itself, I'm no help. But, I've read in a couple places of people using the Boss DS-2 for that sound.

I never could use the DS-2. Too non natural sounding for me.

    Yeah, DS-2 sucks.

I've tried maxon od9 into 2203; sounded close to the guitar from that album, really woody :)

When you order your 1987x from Ceriatone ask them to put the dookie mod in it, he's a smart dude I'm sure he knows how to do it and I bet he would only charge you an extra $35 LOL!

Although I love the Dookie album tone, I'm really going for the live tone Billie has had recently.
I don't quite know If Nik knows the values to mod... It re voices the mids. I'd rather have Martin do it right and shell out $500 more rather than get the Ceriatone and have it not be exactly what I want.

Seriously, if you can't get a good sound out of a 1987 and a modified Boss BD-2 then there's something wrong with this picture.
