Last I heard orders weren’t shipping for months. Wondering if anyone can vouch that they are shipping sooner now?

really wanting to place an order but might just wait if it will take months.

Got it covered. It seems that Hammond hasn’t been hit as hard as the other suppliers. They still have a bunch of OT and Chokes in stock and can also build them to your specs. My trannys will be here in two days. I probably won’t be ordering another set for sometime so I’m willing to give up this info.

I did order the last in stock 290 series power tranny for Marshall amps. They said it will be about 3 weeks lead time if not in stock. The do have many comparable trannys in stock ready to ship.

Hammond makes great transformers and I know personally many builders who use them exclusively. Especially since they can build to mercury specs at a fraction of the cost.

The next hurdle I have is getting capacitors. I use Sozo in my builds exclusively and they are on back order. :wtf:

I use the Vishay / ERO MKT caps, like those that are being carried now at ValveStorm. They are great as far as being transparent (Transparent ---not sterile, tone in= accurate tone out).

Marshall used the same caps on the Astoria

Not a fan of Hammond transformers, at least not as output transformers. My 2203 came to me with a Hammond OT and it sounded pretty bad. Replacing that OT with a vintage original made it a totally different, much superior sounding amp.

I'd recommend Merren for output transformers.

I would too but Merren doesn’t seem to be shipping unless you’ve heard differently.

We will see. I’ve never heard anything bad about Hammond. Ever. So that’s an interesting take.

Merren is unreliable in communication and I have heard horror stories about their products. I know guys who have gotten burned by them. So I won’t be going that route ever.

I actually received a 50 watt OT from him that sounds as good as my factory 2204. I want another but I’m afraid to order one because I’m afraid I might not get it.

If you are building less than a 50 watt amp, I can highly recommend Musical Power Supplies for iron. I swear by their OT's. Some of their earlier iron was wound in China (and I had no issues with those performance wise), then all windings moved to the US. Now with problems in getting transformers wound, they offer some models that are made to spec in Mexico.

Sometimes you can get Matt to custom wind a select piece for you himself.

I have also used Edcor for iron. Very good, finely made iron, but it takes 4-6 months to get a piece, and that was before ClassicTone bit the dust.

Amp Parts Direct carries a lot of Heyboer iron, and most of it is made to ClassicTone spec. They used to be one of the two vendors that carried ClassicTone for us builders to buy. You couldn't order direct from ClassicTone. In fact APD, worked very closely with ClassicTone to meet the needs of builders.

When ClassicTone announced that they were closing APD had Heyboer recreate many of the models that ClassicTone carried, not all, but several. And I had no affiliation with any company, am just a customer.

Heyboer already had line cards for all the Marshall and Trainwreck transformers. They have exact winding geometry retrieved from teardowns of original transformers. It does take them a while to wind them. I wondered why it takes so long to get some transformers built from Chris Merren. I started winding my own and found out quickly that the varnishing process is very time consuming and after stacking them and varnishing again, the curing time is long. I can wind the coil in 4-6 hours depending on power or output but the varnishing and curing takes a couple weeks.
