Innuendos aside, I bought this used on a whim (need entertainment while WFH) and my jaw dropped when I first plugged in. It's a v1 with the red handwired board, before the DC heaters and other "upgrades". For two EL84's, idk how it gets much better than this.

Sounds killer , I’ve been toying with idea of getting one myself. The only thing stopping me is I’ve heard it being described as a dark and smooth sounding and being an 80’s hair metal nut that’s not the thing I’m looking for . Your vid has convinced me otherwise , many thanks bro .

Don't get me wrong, it is by nature a darker amp if you're coming from something like an 800. It's really no big deal though. With a couple pedals she becomes one certified unit. Put an EQ in the loop, boost the front with a TS when you want brootz, gate it if you need it, and that's just about all you need for a killer core tone. To be fair, I use those 3 pedals with just about everything. They make just about any amp sound even better. Stock JJ tubes I think. Somehow I'm the fourth owner of this one, not sure why people didn't dig it.

:slash: I agree with the “brutal” description. I could have watched you work that guitar and PT for about as long as you wanted to play it, nice chops!

I can see that, it doesn't have a dedicated clean channel to speak of. It's really just one dirty channel that starts at edge of break up tones and goes up to pretty distorted. One trick I did learn though..I have that Empress ParaEQ in the loop. I hardly ever use the clean boost on that thing, but if you roll your guitar vol way, way back man, and then pop the clean boost in the loop, you can pretend like you have a clean channel. Actually sounds pretty damn good, if you can live with the inconvenience. For me the dirt is worth price of admission anyways though and that's mostly what I'll use it for.

    Thanks man!

I got a PT last last year after it had been upgraded to the latest mods with the 3 way toggle switch. There's a lot of tones to be had between the 3 positions, and if you roll your pickup volume down to get some clean tones, you can get some decent cleans out of it. Surprisingly loud for a 20w dual el84 amp. It likes my M75 4x12 cab the best of all of my speakers I tried it with.

I'll tell ya about it when you're older son.

Kidding obviously, but actually, I heard through the grape vine that these are actually Dave Friedman's favorite tacos, you see the tortillas are made with a special sort of pink corn, so the outsides are pink, and the contents are supposed to be, uhh...juicy in a way. Anyways, the guy loves 'em apparently and it really does come through in the PT20.

Never played this amp, but always wanted one... LOL
I have the Dirty Shirley Mini and when I bought it, I was considering the PT20 as well.

About the 3 way switch... it gives more gain or cut the gain? I mean, the old PT model have the same amount of gain as the new version?
