Got an EVH 5150 III Stealth couple weeks ago. I did not get the matching cab as I'm sorta up to my earlobes in cabs right now.

If anyone out there has one, what speakers are your preference for this beast? I am somewhat undecided with what to go with and keep cycling through my various options. I've read that the matching EVH Celestion Heritages do in fact go nicely with the amp.

They are a perfect match to the amp man (although I speak as a regular 5150III owner). I went through my entire collection of cabs and installed and reinstalled speakers til I broke down and got a pair of the EVH speakers. They were on sale so I got them cheaper than a pair of greenbacks which are the same thing for the most part minus the labels. Most of the folks I know that own an EVH end up buying the matching cabs . The amp really was designed/voiced around those speakers and they seem the most versatile with it.

I have a pair of the Mesa Boogie V30's that sounded really good but just weren't quite there. 12-75's were just horrible with it and stifled the mids too much.

Cream backs were a little too harsh in the highs but my pair still isn't broken in so take that one with a grain of salt.

    Hope that helps .

Thank you! This does help. Which Creambacks did you find too harsh? I ask because right now I'm torn between a 4x12 with 65w Creambacks and a 2x12 with WGS Veteran 30s. I have never read anyone talk about the EVH amps with those particular WGS speakers, but something about them just crush with those amps, even more so than Vintage 30s in my opinion.

My logic on the Creambacks is that they are, loosely speaking, a higher wattage Greenback so I am curious how much I'd gain by going with the EVH speakers.

The thing that I'm undecided on is that there is quite a bit of what sounds like compression going on with the Stealth, and the mids/woody tone of the 65w Creambacks requires some tweaking so far given the interplay with the compression. I haven't had enough time overall though with the rig to come to a conclusion. Perhaps you're referring to the 75w Creambacks?

Oh and I agree on the G12T-75s. Tried it with my stock 1960A today and that experiment was over in about 4 minutes. haha!

I was using 65w cream backs but like I said, they were brand spanking new out of the box.

I'll mic my cab and see if I can get you a good recording with no post EQ etc so you can get a good idea. Prob won't be til Saturday. I do believe there is still a couple good videos up on YouTube showing what it sounds like.

And also if I have nothing ran through the effects loop and step on red and green at the same time ...all lights go off and I get a "clean like green" tone but slightly different. I was wondering if you or anyone else have this happen.

What is the tube in V1 doing? Does it serve the effects loop (you referred to that effects loop a bit later)? Or are you trying to tame the gain a bit?

howard kaplan, the amp designer says.
    "do not use a 12at7. use a 12au7. "
you can also try a 5751 in v1. both the 12au7 and the 5751 will lower the gain.

Scumback m75 16 in a 4x12 is what I use with both the EVH Stealth 5150 and the 5150El34 heads.
I also have Scumback Bm75-16 in a another 4x12 cab for added mids
