Probably looking for a standup if it's a 2204/JCM800 type chassis. As we all know transformers are kind of hard to come by currently. I've seen some 100w PT with a 15vac winding lately but nothing in a 50w. I certainly am not one who is "in the know" as to the current offerings. I'm sure Chris-In-LA or someone who is will be along soon and have a suggestion.

You could look at a DC heater supply pcb. I think Headfirst Amplification sells one of those, where you build up your own board. Other than something along those lines, a PT with that extra winding will be very difficult to locate.

This is certainly true or you could get a transformer with a 5v winding and use it to power a small board. I did this in a recent project and it was simple and worked out well. Really opens up the possibilities for other transformer options. (Like JTM45)

    This is what I did 5v Board.jpg

Both of the PT’s I linked also have the 5v taps. What ever happened to OP?

Perhaps there is room to install a toroid PT. I have made an aluminium plate to PT hole where toroid is screwed flat. Antek has many different output voltage 200VA tube PT for about $50. Amps I have used toroid PTs hum less than amps which use traditional EI core PTs but they are also cheaper and lighter.

Here in europe we have quite a lot of toroid tube PTs available but in USA I know only Antek. Are there other?

Why? The additional work involved will not improve the sound. I’ve gone down the heater supply wormhole and now I will always use 6.3 volts AC. Also, it’s not necessary to use a drill to twist 2 feet of paired wire down to 1 foot length. All that’s needed is parallel wiring in the shortest length to reach the sockets. 1 full twist in 2 inches is sufficient.

I guess I just want to try it on this new JCM 800 50W build. I float all the heaters on 65vdc that helps expecially with cathode follower life. This is my second build. My first was Jtm 45 and than I rebuilt into a dirty shirley so just trying to get more experience

Thanks for info. I thought about using that model but I have the 27" chassis and with all the room I may try some channel switching and maybe midi.

I don’t know if a 120mA rated power transformer will make 50 watts. What’s the voltage rating? It will be mushy and that’s a good thing if that’s what you’re after. If you call Heyboer and ask to speak to Phil, he will pull the card and tell you the specs.
