There's a new tube rebrander in town, and his name is EVH.
Groove Tubes type box and looks like JJ tubes.
Tubes have always been rebranded, so I don't see what the big deal is here. Made in China I assume?
Who said it was a big deal?
I wonder if the EL34 sound just like the 6L6.
They certainly look the same.
Eddie is dead may he rest in peace.
if it has EVH 5150III printed on them, they must be worth the extra price, right? haha
Probably Ruby tubes just like the TADs.
EVH = Expensive Valve Hype
Ruby tubes do not make TAD....Ruby is a rebrander....as is TAD......Both tend to be Chinese as a rule(shuguang).
TAD claim to make a very close Mullard ECC83 reproduction. Anybody knows if this is true? Also, where are they made?
As stated earlier TAD is a rebrander and usually uses chinese tubes (they have a manufacturing agreement with Shuguang). But they are generally chinese tubes that are made with different alloys....and i seriously doubt they have a great Mullard...many claim that (it is like JJ saying they make telefunken....they bought the old telefunken machines but do not use any of the proper materials and sound NOTHING like an actual telefunken (I have 4 diamond stamp telefunkens from an old tube stereo...the ones worth $450 apiece...they really have something special going on...so much so I actually never use them)....and as stated before to your question about where they are made....uhhhh....china(the best mullard reproductions I know of are Russian......NOT TAD)
Great info, thanks. Are referring to the Russian Gold Lions?
450$ for a telefunken lol?
TAD, while they technically are not a mfgr, they have always stated that they have the tubes made specifically to their spec.
Their 12AX7 tubes have a brushed stainless, or nickel looking plate:
Their 12BH7A, has similar makeup, but, not the brushed stainless:
Their claim though, is that, their tubes are their exclusive spec/design. They used to say that they contracted w/ China, but, it seems that they aren't exclusively anymore. IDK...
Ruby, Mesa, GT, etc., all just order tubes direct & are relabelers.
yes...original NOS telefunken 12ax7 sell for $450(with the diamond stamp in the glass). Not the new production garbage. All day long
no....the russian tubes I am referring to are the new production Mullards...they are Russian tubes(not the NOS Brimar tubes). Gold Lion used to be maybe around 10 years ago ElectroHarmonix....then they went premium and Gold Lion sold them and EH had to settle for a lesser grade.
$450 for one 12ax7? Jesus that's a used 4100.............
The funny thing is nobody seems to notice that while the TAD branded tubes are manufactured for TAD exclusively, they are NOTHING more than chinese with different alloys (look closely, they have the same exact configuration and interior parts just made of a different metal(the chinese 12ax7b has a little stainless clip inside and I am convinced they put that clip there to make up for deficiencies in the plates used(the plates in chinese are cheap and do not provide the right "mix" for electrolysis...hence the stainless clip...the only difference with these and the TAD is the plates are made of the more expensive stainless(probably not stainless, just looks like stainless steel to me) and because the right mix is in the plates the clip is not necessary)....there is a process that takes place inside of tubes that allows electrons to flow from plate to plate and the right mix of metals in the tube makes this more or less possible).(yes...TAD are supposed to be premium tubes and I am not denying or debating that...merely stating that they are clearly chinese tubes).
I have about 25 tele 12ax7s..maybe more.
