Hail Marshallians, i have an old 5210 from 1987 that im planning to convert into an 18W jcm800. The amp works fine, its just that after buying my first tube amp i cant play a ss anymore. Once you go tubes... also i already have the chassis and speaker cab (its a combo, for those who are not familiar with it) which i will convert to a head. is it a bit of a sacrilege to gut a fully functional amplifier? Also what are the requirements if i wanted to switch from EL84's to EL34?

Sounds hideous what youre about to do, buy an SC20H and dont destroy your combo.

I cant afford one and its so much more fun to build one. Btw i never play that amp anymore... its only got high gain, no crunch at all....dont care to play metal anymore and it would only sell for 100$ maybe, here in Norway.... i wanna convert it into a head which i will play through a 2x12 with greenbacks that im currently building

Yea I'd have to agree with Pede, don't destroy that 5210. They are collectable, and are increasing in value. Sell it and fund your build with the proceeds.

If you have to build a combo find a nice MG to use as your base. They are a dime a dozen, and cheap. Sell that 5210 to someone who will appreciate it as is.

I feel some love for that 5210! I guess if the amp was dead it would be another story. Damn you guys made me second guess myself now. I admit its a shame to kill a working amp, even though i dont play it anymore..... what to do......

Clone the preamp of the amp you're after then use the 5210 as a powered speaker(plug into fx return)... ...the tone you want and amp saved...

If you dont play it any more and dont care about it sell it and use the proceeds to fund a clone build or buy another amp. Here's a mini 800 you can build or buy outright without breaking the bank, although it has 6V6's but who cares:

Because i need it:cool: heres the one i want to get, its from germany, much closer to norway for shipping and a bit cheaper because we are not in the european union...
