Recently got this Canadian 84 4010 that was converted to a head.
I have a 2203 but figured I had to give this poor bastard a home.

    It sounds great!
I think a tune up is in order but it is 34 yrs old.
It has some new tubes but not sure what, if anything else has been done yet.

BTW that isn't a Canadian version. It should have a silver metal power toggle and no 16 ohm setting as well as a CSA plaque on the back that I can't tell from the pics. Not that it really matters.

The 4010 has a cap on the mid pot ibelieve thats not on a 2204. I think turning the mids down about halfway mostly negates the difference. Speaker choice will have a bigger effect on the midrange than anything.

Ya my 83 2203 has the metal switches... I figured they stopped using them later in 84 and added the impedance switch as well... The EL34s were another sign... not to mention I'm in Canada... So I assumed it is Canadian market...but...

I just double checked and it has no CSA plate...LA Inspection Sticker??

How it got here and the EL34s got in it is anybody's guess... I'll pull the chassis and invetigate

Good score. I believe the amp Jerry Cantrell used on Facelift (and other bands in the early 90's) was similar but had what was called a snorkeler mod by Reinhold Bogner. Would be a nice project restore to a combo or order a new cabinet from Sourmash. It would have a cap on the mid pot as earlier suggested.

    Nice looking SGs brother :yesway:

I would be tempted to convert that 4010 back into a 1x12 combo just because...

A guy traded me this , an out of production Schrade huntin knife and a piece of silver for the most horrible USA production LP Jr

I kept my eyes open though and found a Marshall 5210 on Craig's for 80 bucks or so
Stuck the 4010 chassis and a 65 in the cabinet
Gave the 5210 chassis in the chopper headbox to my drummer for his studio

What did you do with the hunting knife and piece of silver? You got all the tools you need to fix a filling like a real man. :yesway:

Ironically I have an Alice in Chain Tribute band called Facelift :band:
I'm usually using a 5150 with a Tremoverb live... I also have an old Laney AOR 50W Head... all of which he used at some point I believe.

Here is a clip from last week... We played a couple of AICs in a set with our cover band act Ram Air V

Love the white. I had a white 1983 half stack identical. Should have kept it.
My 1987 Jubilee still has a metal toggle and no 16 ohm.

I have the same 84 model and that mid cap makes a big difference. I have experimented with it.

Yes it makes it brighter, gives it more high freq mids. I lowered mine to 2200 uF. Gave it just a touch more high end mids.

The knife sees plenty use on deer n birds
The silver , I gave to the woman ,of course . Comin home from a road trip with worthy trinkets is a must !! Takes attention away from the guitars n amps you came home with in lieu of MONEY !!
