Recently bought this 2045 cab which came with grey backed G12hs dated 1974. My interest in buying was for just for the cab. I sold the speakers on to a friend of mine (along with my restored 2045 cab) and replaced them with a pair of recently acquired 1973 dated G12S Celestions with pulsonic cones. I have to say this is a fantastic pairing. The G12S is a surprisingly ballsy speaker. Plenty of bottom end with a smooth mid and high frequency response. Perfect for lower volume playing.

Nice cabinet!!
I own one similar also from 1974. Sold the G12H T1281 speakers and installed two G12M T1220 from '66 and '67. Super nice sounding cabinet, perfect match for a JTM45!

Thank you! The G12S seems to be vastly under rated. The frequency response is perfect. Pulsonic cones. What more do you want?!!! The only compromise is the 40w rating with the two speakers combined. However I think this is probably a conservative rating.

Have spent a bit more time playing through this cab on and off this week and gained more confidence to push the volume. They sound fantastic and are plenty loud enough.

Can't understand the lack of interest in the G12S speakers. Buy them whilst they are still cheap. Excellent speakers in my opinion. A few weeks back I was trying out a load of different vintage Celestion speakers with an 18watt combo - 1974x to see which ones sounded best. I liked the T1221's from 69 the best, but in close second place was the T1416 from 1975 with Mueller cone!

20W power rating is probably scary for many people. You need a 4x12 to just feel mildly comfortable with a cranked 50W head on top. But yeah who still cranks his amps, it's all about attenuators now.

I know for a fact that these sound fantastic in a 4x12 because a very good friend of mine turned me on to these. I’m trying to convince another friend to buy another pair of G12S so we can put them in a 1960B cab that I have a half share in. Because Kossoff didn’t use them , he’s not interested!

Better make sure to buy them before Johan Segeborn makes a video about them, or else you pay twice the price

Yes they'll sound great in a 4x12. I used to have a set of them in an old Sai 4x12. It was my main cab at home for a good few years.

That looks like a lot of fun! And an ingenious solution to the "1x12 never sounding big enough" problem discussed in that other thread.

Thank you! They are very good cabs, I have to say. Definitely better sounding than the 1936 cab which is made from thicker ply. I’ve put Greenbacks, black backs, G12-65s and they all sound fantastic. The other plus for the G12S is that they are very much lighter in weight than the Hs I had in previously!
