1977 JMP 2204 tone issues

    It has 6505’s , I’ll have my friend bring his ‘79 with El34’s in and check the difference.

    The two 2204s I've had sound excellent. My cheap clone sounds horrible, handwired, looks like all good quality parts. Sounds like a 2204 should when cranked but clean and crunch have zero bottom and terrible gravely overdrive. Which circuits should I look at for repairs or possibly mods?
