Hi Guys, I've recently bought an 1959HWBM. I would like to know what are the differences in the circuit with the stock 1959HW. Are these common mods people make in plexi? how do the mods reflect in the amp sound in your opinion? Thanks a lot, Matteo
Bernie Marsdan - Whitesnake. from Marshall: “Alterations have added gain to the normal and high treble channels giving it a grittier tone. The mids have been adjusted to provide more control of the frequencies at higher mid levels. Finally, the global feedback in the power amp has been adjusted to allow more expression and punch.”
I'm Not Really expert in Marshall mods. What I wish to know with this post is if Bernie's mods are or not common Marshall mods people made in their amps. For example Bright mod, gain stages mods. Someone can recognise any common mods? I will also wish to share the circuit layout if anyone want to try!!! this amp really rocks!!! I wish to try standard Marshall 1959HW to understand the difference
You could be the guy to document this. You could download a 1959 schematic, and document the value variances by marking the BM values next to the 1959 values on the 1959 schematic.
I see a few things different from what i expect from a 1959 Pot values might also be different but we can't see them.. J These are tweaks rather than mods. The 560pF I've seen in 60s amps but is 470 on anything 70s onwards. Also missing compared to 1959SLP is second stage cathode bypass cap
Listened to demos on this when it came out and loved it. Why it isn't the benchmark for Marshall tone IDK esp as it seems to sound hot even at low volumes where a 1959 wouldn't even have woken up. I had a 59HW it would be straight back to Bletchley to get modded to Bernie spec.
The mods on that amp are nothing new . You get more gain in V1 and some tone shaping in the tone stack . The right combination of gain and tone gives you that sound .
