Well I came back here to say it wasn't the bias/tubes nor the amp that was causing the clipping on the clean channel. In fact it was a Talisman reverb pedal that did not like a Boss DD-7 in front of it. The DD-7 caused the Talisman to clip if you digged into the strings.
Btw...I did get new...
I bumped it up to 76 per side. There's an improvement. My bias must have drifted down from last year or my EL34s are going sour. Good timing as I have new tubes on the way.
In my previous post, 33-34 per tube. 66-68 per side. I checked my bias. 68 per side. According to the sticker Marshall says 60 min, recommends 70, max 80.
I'll bump it up and see what happens.
I have biased with stock power tubes. They are around 33-34 per side if I recall. I'm using Chinese 12ax7s with square getters.
I guess I can put in original Marshall 12ax7s and see.
I have GT-EL34Ms on the way. Those sounded awesome in my friends original Jubilee. But that was way back...
It's the digging in that gives me that plastic clipping that is unnatural. More so on bridge. I'm using Slash Alnico set in one guitar and Duncan Distortion bridge, 59 neck on another.
The lead channel is awesome. Just struggling with the clean when digging in at times. Scratching my head. The...
Rhythm clip NOT pulled. No matter the output of the pickup or whether I use bridge or neck, I get this super compressed or plastic like tone if I dig in just a little. Are diodes present on the "clean" channel too?
Thanks for your update on the 10in GB in your SV20 combo. I was just going to ask about how a 10in GB would sound in this combo. Better than stock or not. Seems like Marshall knows.
Those that commented on single GBs not sounding good alone, then why did Marshall put a single GB in the Mini...
I walked into my local GC today and lucky me there was a new SC20. I played on it and let me tell you it was night and day from the one I bought and immediately returned to Sweetwater. It had balls and sounded like a JCM800 should. I'm going to rethink this amp again.
I also played on a...
I'm a little reluctant in buying the DSL40CR due to the cab made out of MDF. How well is it made? How much "different" would this combo sound if it was in a birch ply cab.
Mark IVa owner here too. Thanks for posting. Didn't catch what speakers and cab you are playing through. Mine sounds amazing through a Marshall JCM800 4x12 with original g12-65s. Way better than a recto cab with v30s. Talk about a mid fest you can't really dial out. Go figure.
Marks have a ton...
I picked up this almost 40yr old slant cab in very good condition with stock G12-65s. This cab delivers that tone I hear in my head. It's that slight grit or hair and a little high end roll off to make it musical. I just love these speakers. My 2555x sounds very good through these too but the...
$700 was his bottom line. I'm going tomorrow to play through it with my 2555x and Mesa Mark IV. I already have the matching Jubilee 4x12 with V30s and a Mesa vertical 2x12 with Mesa V30s.
If it's not the sound I am after, then I'll move on to a G12T-75 loaded 4x12.
In truth the SC20h was a demo/return. Whatever you want to call it, it did not sound as I remember the first time I plugged into one paired up to the way overpriced Marshall 1x12 cab. That amp into the 1x12 had balls. The one I have through either my 2x12 or 4x12 had no balls.
