Need some help with this mod I found for a jvm? Thoughts?

Ok, thanks! Crappy weather here today, so maybe I'll get to this tonight and see what happens. I am also doing the negative feedback mod while I have it open again. I'll do this one first , test to make sure the amp works then do he other.

Need some help with this mod I found for a jvm? Thoughts?

Thanks! I guess the only question I have left is does it matter if the cap in series with the resister is first or second in series? Like say the resistor goes to ground on one side. Does it matter if the signal goes through the cap first then into the resistor or vise versa? Would there be a...

Is this the right area to ask about solid state amp repairs?

I hooked up my meter to the speaker leads unplugged from the amp and get no reading at all. I’m thinking the speaker is junk now. I’ve replaced Q10 and Q11 transistors. Both had burnt leads. R68 and R71 should be 220 ohms but they aren’t reading correctly. I ordered some cuz I don’t have that...

Any of those handheld oscilloscopes on Amazon actually useful?

Good point. Thanks. Just looking for tools. I've been getting back into working on electronics, mostly amps.

Is this the right area to ask about solid state amp repairs?

Thanks Matt. I was able to get that dim bulb limiter built last night while watching the twisted sister biography lol , so the plan is to go over the amp this weekend. Thanks for the suggestions on what to check! I'm determined to get this dumpster amp working :dude:

Is this the right area to ask about solid state amp repairs?

Learned how to build a dim bulb limiter. So I'll do that later after a stop at a hardware store. Good to have no matter what when working on this type of thing... After that I'll check the power and ground resistors. Thank you for the info on testing transistors!

Wondering if anyone else was curious about them under $200 bucks.

Is this the right area to ask about solid state amp repairs?

I did buy 3 transistors when I ordered the other one. Not from Fleabay... lol I did replace R73 and R74 with like parts of the same value as the stock ones. The transistors you are talking about are the ones labeled 13 and 15 on opposite sides of the 2 ceramic 73,74 resistors? There is a second...

Is this the right area to ask about solid state amp repairs?

The sound it made just seems like something shorting out. I'll check out how to test transistors. Thanks for the starting point! We aren't worried if it gets fixed or not because it was free. I just wanted some more experience.

Is this the right area to ask about solid state amp repairs?

Friend of mine has a friend who found an amp in a dumpster and gave it to him. It only made a loud hum noise. (None of the controls affect the hum noise at all by the way) He in turn gave it to me hoping i could get it working, so I opened her up and found a burnt resistor. I replaced that...

Need some help with this mod I found for a jvm? Thoughts?

So is R96 the correct resistor on your amp? I plan on doing the negative feedback knob too while i have it apart. I have the parts for that as well.

Need some help with this mod I found for a jvm? Thoughts?

Ok, ill take a look after work and see if R96 is a 10k. Guess I should download a schematic while at work today. The amp does have huge amounts of gain for sure. Thanks for the replies!

Need some help with this mod I found for a jvm? Thoughts?

https://www.thefretboard.co.uk/discussion/63631/first-time-amp-modding-2-new-mods-for-my-marshall-jvm410hjs I found this mod stating it is the Randy Rhoad’s and AFD mod on a switch. Does this look like it would do what it says? Secondly he never says which resistor to solder the switch in...

    Jvm noises intermittent

I have this intermittent noise coming for the amp. I had the amp just idle. Guitar hooked up effects loop active. Pops, clicks fuzzy noises coming in and out. So I unhooked my effects board. Still was there. Disengaged the effects loop button. Didn’t change. I switched channels throughout the...

Need Help With JVM410H, Burnt Resistor

The resistors I found worked. I also installed a choke. The amp used to pop when I turned it on or off. Now it doesn’t pop at all. Seems some of the nasty hiss is gone as well.

Need Help With JVM410H, Burnt Resistor

I don't think there is some sort pf marshall magic going on, just want to make sure I install the correct component. I'll get them installed tonight and see what happens. I bought 10 of them so if anything happens I have spares.

Need Help With JVM410H, Burnt Resistor

The ones I ordered from mouser don’t look the same but are flame proof 1 watt 1 ohm 1% tolerance. Hopefully they do the trick. I’m going to check out the other vendors though. Thanks for the tip.

Need Help With JVM410H, Burnt Resistor

I have a set of those same resistors blown in my jvm. I can’t find a dealer selling 5 band metal oxide 1ohm 1 watt 1% tolerance resistors anywhere. Where have you guys found these?

Hello. I was reading through some threads and was curious what you have done to your jvm. I have a jvm 410c. I’ve been looking into possible mods for this amp. I do like it and it’s sounds really good at low volumes for a 100 watt Marshall. Thanks!
