...I quit smoking. I went from a pack a day to none at all, and haven't had a single drag since.
Considering how much I liked smoking, how heavily I smoked, and how much I still like the smell this was one hell of an accomplishment.
Happy anniversary to me!!!
I have a 1978 Traynor YGL3 Mark III (for those who aren’t familiar with it, those are their version of the Twin Reverb but with master volumes to make the sound levels controllable). It is currently with a local amp tech. He has taken a look at it and thinks it needs a little work, as well as a...
I am thinking of dipping my toe back into the Marshall waters. I currently have an Orange AD30 (not going anywhere), and a vintage Traynor YGL3 (their version of the Twin) which I might get rid of if I can get my money back out of it.
My options are a 1990 JCM800 Super Lead (not sure if $2500...
I recently picked up an Orange Rocker 15 Terror that I quite like. On a whim I picked up a Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister Deluxe 20 and quite like that as well. I am only a home player who plays classic rock, '80s metal, etc. But because I also have a 1978 Traynor YGL3, I only need one of the...
I have my Tele, my Gretsch, and my Les Paul. The LP is very much a '70s Jimmy Page style LP so, although it can do metal if I really want it to, none of those are really metal guitars. I decided that I kind of wanted a metal guitar. I also kind of wanted a Strat style, but I simply cannot play...
I've got a line on a used SV20H.
There are no new ones available in Canada until December so I've never even tried one. How good are they really? Are they worth having for a basement player like myself? Or are they too effing loud? I've heard here that the Little Black Box does a good job of...
As many of you know, I recently picked up a used JVM210H and a Marshall 1936 cab. Since I just knew I'd go to a 4x12 at some point, I decided that there was no time like the present and scooped a 1960A that is in great condition for $500 (Canadian). I will be exchanging the 1936 for it later...
I picked up a DSL100 yesterday, but it turned out to be the old 100H model and not the newer 100HR model that I had ordered (the originating store had taken in a used model and put it under the wrong SKU).
I just spoke to a friend who works in the chain and he did a search for me. I can get...
I am usually a combo guy so this is only my second head & cab setup (the first was an Orange AD30 and Orange 2x12). A DSL100HR and 1936 cab are a bit of overkill for a home player, but why not play what you like right?
Or maybe I should say that I am getting a head today :hbang:
Anyway, I decided to return my DSL40CR and go with the DSL100HR and a 1936 cab. Both have arrived, and I will pick them up later today.
Does anyone have any advice as to what settings are best for a home player who likes classic...
I can pick up a Marshall SL5 for $500, which is apparently a good price up here in Ontario.
I don't know much about them, except for having tried one for 90 seconds back when they were new in stores. Is it worth picking one up?
I currently own a DSL40CR (jury is still out on that one) and a...
. . . to be a non-smoker eh?
After 35 years (give or take a year) of smoking basically a pack a day, I quit a few days ago. I'd wanted to for a while, but hadn't planned to that day. I just realized as evening approached that I hadn't smoked at all that day so decided not to. And I haven't...
I am back in the Marshall family after spending some time with Orange and Vox. I just bought a DSL40CR, and have some questions that I need some help with from those who have more experience with these amps, and with amps in general.
Does anyone else find the amp rather boomy in the bass...
I recently got rid of my Yamaha LL6 and picked up a 'lifer' acoustic - a limited edition Gibson Songwriter from the Gibson Custom Shop. Only 65 of these were produced for Canada's main gear retailer, although they do currently make a regular production 'Studio' version of the guitar with a...
I have an early 1984 Marshall JCM800 2203 for sale. It is the Canadian CSA version so runs EL34 tubes the way a classic Marshall should. This is not a reissue, and is one of the last of the more desirable vertical input models. Being a CSA model it only has taps for 8ohms and 4ohms.
The grill...
Some unexpected car repair expenses have come up so I have decided it is probably best just to buy another car, which sucks because my current one was my Dad's and he passed away in January 2017.
It also sucks that this is happening a week after I loaned someone $600
Since I want to...
I am currently considering a Hiwatt (loud to the point of sheer absurdity) and an Orange AD30 which prompted an amp conversation with a couple of friends. During that, we were discussing the best amps, either head or combo, of 30 watts or less for non-gigging players (some of our suggestions did...
I've been listening to some old Bluesbreakers stuff from the Peter Green era and love his tone (I prefer the Bluesbreakers with him than I do with Clapton!). That got me to thinking about Orange amps (well that and my recent attempt to score a Rockerverb at an amazing price) but I don't know a...
I'm looking to grab a 4x12 for my early '84 JCM800 2203. I am currently using a 2x12 loaded with Creambacks and figured I should grab a 4x12 with Greenbacks, but I wonder if that is really necessary and whether G12-65s or G12-75s are just fine?
The problem is that I know bugger all about cabs...
