What speakers do I have? Trying to date my cab.

Sometimes they can just fall off, but another reason is when people hear a rattle or a buzz coming from their cab they will assume its because the magnet covers are loose, so they remove them. Which is another reason you should get the speakers out and check them over properly. Whenever I get...

What speakers do I have? Trying to date my cab.

They do look like 0444 cones to me, look a bit harder :D Sometimes the codes are right up near the center of the cone, so you might need to very carefully remove a speaker from the cab or use a mirror or something. I will bet my right arm they are 0444's. You can get unstamped Kurt Mueller...

What speakers do I have? Trying to date my cab.

yep mid 70's creambacks made Dec 1974 (Year and Month printed back to front) If they have the 0444 stamped cones with the large ribs they are very nice sounding cones. Very likely those are the cones you have. I call them 'transitional pulsonics' but who knows what the real story is behind...

    Plexi shootout!

Lets not slate any of the amps based on 1 video like this. This is 1 recording scenario out of a million different variables for each amp. What works for one amp might not work for another. Mic placement, speaker cabinet, amp settings etc. There are so many things that could potentially be...

    The First Marshall Casters 1967-1970

Certain US dealers are notorious for asking ridiculous prices ;) I've seen them asking the price of a small car just for the black 80's homas. The push-in revvos are the rarest though. Very fragile, not many still exist today.

small hole in vintage speaker cone?

that is ebay in nutshell. described as perfect, then you find out they are not. very fed up of this myself with ebay sellers & speakers. some of them are complete junk. dont tolerate it. ask for a 50% refund. if the seller is not courteous and refuses the 50% refund, then send them back and get...

    Pride and joy.

That will be such a cool guitar once you get the floyd rose installed, and artificially relic it some more with sandpaper and maybe a small fire or two.

    Greenback question-

Truly good vintage greenbacks are hard to find. Ive been preaching this on the forum for years. Maybe only 1 in 10 old greenbacks (pre-1980) out there are still functioning 100% properly. However most people are merrily jamming away on bad speakers, blissfully unaware of any problems. So it...

Vintage cab experts needed! Looking at a 70's cab with Greenbacks

yeah bad diagram in that respect. (it was done by jim scumback afterall :D). i guess the circuit is just in reverse now on your cab, thats why it still works. basically the tip of the jack (the pointy bit) is positive: behind the black ring is the negative part. so when you wire the socket...

Vintage cab experts needed! Looking at a 70's cab with Greenbacks

Just looking at your jack socket, it could be wired up incorrectly. When the wiring is blue and brown, the brown is positive. So that means the brown should be at the tip of the jack socket, not the blue...

    Is this speaker bad?

Ive seen similar cone warping on T1976 speakers. I think it is caused by the dustcap being installed too tightly into the cone and it causes it to warp out of shape. So long as the speaker works I wouldnt worry too much. That one looks like a recone to me anyway.

Vintage cab experts needed! Looking at a 70's cab with Greenbacks

It looks like the wiring is back to stock so should be a 16 Ohm cab. It is the standard series/parallel wiring, just looks complicated because of the twisted wire. Double check they are soldered to the correct terminals.

Vintage cab experts needed! Looking at a 70's cab with Greenbacks

No Mueller coned greenbacks. The earliest I have seen them is 75. Last of the creambacks. There might be some around from 74 but I have not seen any myself.

Vintage cab experts needed! Looking at a 70's cab with Greenbacks

I think a lot of confusion is caused by the date codes. They printed them back to front a lot of the time with the month and year back to front. But most people dont realise it and date their speakers inaccurately. You need to be a real nerd sometimes to spot it. There is some transitional...

Vintage cab experts needed! Looking at a 70's cab with Greenbacks

I dont know much about blackstar cabs but I would trade it for an old Marshall in a heartbeat. Please dont be so quick to attach high values to old celestions. "Get em out, and check em out". I just sold a similar period quad to a forum member here for under £60 gbp per speaker. Condition is...

    my old Marshall cabinet

The gold speaker is pretty cool. Is the date stamp 08GA on that one by any chance? Id love to know what they were celebrating at the factory that day. The labels are correct for mid 68 T1511's. All pre-rola labels have 75hz on them, they only started printing 55hz on them around 1972. They...
