    VH tribute w/Satch?

You guys read my mind when you mentioned Pete Thorn. While Satch is a great player and can definitely pull it off, he isn't the perfect fit for this gig. Pete falls into Eddie's groove and tone way more neatly.

    I love all my guitars

Not all of them, but the ones I don't love I keep for specific reasons. One is my Schecter C1 Hellraiser. Its cool because it is a prototype that never went into production. All mahogany with a Sustainiac and a Duncan Nazgul. Another is my Danelectro 12SDC. It is great when I need a 12...

    Artists *without* Marshalls

Totally different genre, but I didn't notice anyone mention BB King's Lab Series L5. Talk about tone from a solid state amp.

Looking to buy first Gibson LP! Never get a break!

Why bother? I traded a Gibson Lucille for a PRS Custom 24. The clear coat is chipped, has scratches on the back and it is a dark purple when I really like the amber finish. I did the trade because it was the best guitar I ever played. It is now my #1, in fact thats the one in my profile...

Jonesing for a new axe, 80’s style!

Have you had a chance to try out one of these new Kramers? I tried a new Tobias bass after Epiphone took over and they are very disappointing. The Gibson made Toby wasn't anywhere near as good as Michael's custom shop, but they were head and shoulders better than the current line being...

What's your Cheapest Guitar? And do you like it?

We including basses in this thread? If so, then it would be my Squire Classic Vibe P-Bass. If not, then my Danelectro 12 string. Amazed at how well both of these play and sound considering the price. Danelectro 59 12-string by Mike J posted Jul 20, 2021 at 4:06 PMSquire P-Bass by Mike J...

If you could only have one guitar, what would it be?

I'd have to go with my Kiesel DC600. Being able to get Les Paul-ish and Strat-ish tones out if it is good, but when you stir in the piezo saddles and that that amazing Koa top, I don't think I could leave that one behind.

Do you obsess with your guitar playing and how much ?

I used to until I realized my obsession drove me to always practice. I never sat back to just enjoy playing. Whats the point of honing your skills to that level if you don't leave yourself some time to make music? I'm getting older and have far fewer years ahead of me than I have behind me, so...

    Should I Do It?

I think HJS has the best of everything in the JVM world. Instead of a fairly poor reverb it has a useful gate. Also having two channels voiced exactly the same is sheer brilliance for the performing player. You can maintain the same tonal character between the two channels but boost the mids...

not even if they delivered it themselves

Yes, I did grow up with these guys in the 70s so I fit the profile and yes, I am a fan, at least of their early material. I stopped following the new stuff after they started going pop with Dynasty. What I liked about their music was how raw it was. Straight up rock and roll. I have attended...

    Randy on Eddie

I think the influence a player has on you is more important than anything else. Page would get the gold medal for being sloppy. Not so much when he is sober, but thats a different conversation. After half a century many of us still rank stairway as having the greatest lead solo in history...

    Friedman Pedals!

BE-OD is the pedal of choice for me although I have a difficult time calling it an overdrive. It performs much more like a distortion pedal in my opinion. I keep my Origin 20 very clean and turn the internal trim pot on the BE-OD down a tad. In that configuration I can get nice cleans and...

Am I the only *No Treble* on a Marshall dude?

I probably should have mentioned it was a VERY small venue. There were only about 200 of us at his G4 Experience event. Thats how I was able to get such a close up shot of his amp settings. He probably has the masters pushed further up for the larger venues.

    Best bedroom amp

Here is an interesting combination for you to try. A JVM205H with the MV on 1 through an Origin 4x12. That actually sounds pretty good to me and it is what I would consider bedroom volume. What is so interesting about this combination? I also plugged that head into my Orange 2x12 with V30s...

    Thoughts on Marshall DSL 40?

I've gigged with a DSL40 many times in smaller venues. Worked out great. I put a cream back in mine and that just took it over the top. I also had a volume issue were the signal would just fade out and then fade back in. Turned out to be my bridge pickup and not the amp at all. Check to...

Joe Satriani's Amp by Mike J posted Apr 20, 2021 at 6:51 AM This one is Joe Satriani's amp. There is a little glare in the picture but he keeps both treble and presence right around 4 on all four channels.

    How do you single coil?

All good advice above. Personally, I just use DiMarzio Cruisers in my Strat. That are hum cancelling, but still retail a good single coil sound. I heard Andy Timmons offering this advice so I tried it. He was right.
