+1 on the Greenback love. I swapped out one g12-t75 in a 2x12 for a current production g12m-25 and it's perfect. I also built a rangemaster to boost it and I'm getting a really complex harmonically rich cranked Marshall tone. The best part is with an attenuator and power scaling it still sounds...
So I ended up selling the captor to a work mate.
The P&P 50 sounded more transparent to me with my Origin 20 and T75/Greenback cab, if anything it adds a bit of a percussive thump, where as the Captor adds a bit more upper mid edge that would work well for some purposes. The combo of Origin...
I own a Two Notes Captor and a couple of unsung ones - an AMT PE-15 and a Plug and Play Amplification Power Attenuator 50 (received just this morning).
I use them for silent recording and to get crunch out of my Origin 20 at non-neighbour pissing off levels (which even the 0.5 watt mode is...
Yeah I think longer term I'll get a real vox.
I'll keep the Origin though - it's so useful as a base. I use it as a straight up rock amp (when I can get loud), a clean platform for pedals, or an EL34 or whatever octals will fit power amp for preamps.
I've been hankering for a vox, but an AC30 is way overkill for my needs and the little AC4's lack reverb or an fx loop to add one in.
I came across someone selling Yellow Jacket converters w/el84's for about the same price as just the valves (specifically the non-power reducing, <20w power, low...
I've spent a lot of time playing modellers through monitors and even a single stage wedge.
With the monitor you use the GE200's cabinet simulation, you hear what a mic'd and recorded amp/4×12 sounds like. It sounds more like listening to an album.
Many people these days will run their real amp...
They will. That tone is all high gain, humbuckers and reverb. It takes practice to both dial in a tone and make a guitar sing. I'd even say it's easier to get that shiny studio recorded tone out of a modeller like the ge200 with all its built in effects and processing than a raw tube amp in the...
I would almost guarantee those clips were recorded with a modeller via monitors.
The main things I hear in your clips are compression, gain and reverb.
Here's someone getting something pretty close to your clips:
I think its worthwhile having something you can play back without headphones, a...
Not necessary but an EQ for the loop and 4 in/output noisegate are handy tools for sculpting a metal tone too. I like the cheap-as-chips artec mini parametric eq for notching out just the right spot in the mids.
If you're like me you'll find yourself whittling down pedals once you've found...
How much does power valve matching matter for these amps? I bought a JJ el34l for my single valve amp but don't really like it there. Could I buy another single from the same store and expect the pair to work fine in my Origin 20?
