Safely retension

Yay or nay on using an old meter probe with a plastic handle to retension power tube sockets without draining filter caps? Is that safe enough as long as I keep the other hand away from the amp, or could I still get zapped? I'd really like to avoid draining the caps if I can, but I don't have any non-metal implement that I can use and don't want to break anything off in there. Thanks.

Tim

Re: Safely retension

I've done it before with an ice pick with a plastic screwdriver handle before. I didn't drain any caps, but this wasn't an ancient amplifier either.

It is always safer and I would recommend discharging the caps no matter what type of work you are doing. Even when the amp has it's own bleeder I still recommend manually discharging them anyway just to be safe.

ANY recommended idle current is a guideline and in no way a necessary requirement. There is no skeleton key for any tube amp.
