Can't figure out why my cab is shorting out?
Already posted this in another thread but i thought maybe someone would see it here and be able to help too!
I use a mesa single rec head with a marshall 1960a cab. When I turn the volume up my cab starts making a rattling, not so good sound...but i noticed it's coming from all the speakers, not just one. And when I push down on the cable going into the input jack on the cab I can hear the cab shorting in and out a bit. I've tried my head, guitar, and cables on a different cab so I know that isn't the problem. Also there was a burning smell coming from the cab and when I opened it up it seemed like it was coming from the jack plate but i really couldnt tell. Also, i doubt it's incorrect ohm settings because they have been the same way for two years. Could this rattling be because I need to replace the jack plate or the speakers? Thanks so much Ryan |

Re: Can't figure out why my cab is shorting out?
The jackplate has a little circuit board that allows the different wiring configurations...stereo at 8 ohms each side, or mono at 16 ohms or 4 ohms. There could be an issue with that board and its circuitry.

Could also be faulty jacks as well. Speaker cabs as well as everything in/on them is subject to vibration, on top of the plugging in and out of the cable itself, which is known to loosen shit up.
