Can't figure out why my cab is shorting out?

Already posted this in another thread but i thought maybe someone would see it here and be able to help too!

I use a mesa single rec head with a marshall 1960a cab.

When I turn the volume up my cab starts making a rattling, not so good sound...but i noticed it's coming from all the speakers, not just one. And when I push down on the cable going into the input jack on the cab I can hear the cab shorting in and out a bit. I've tried my head, guitar, and cables on a different cab so I know that isn't the problem. Also there was a burning smell coming from the cab and when I opened it up it seemed like it was coming from the jack plate but i really couldnt tell. Also, i doubt it's incorrect ohm settings because they have been the same way for two years. Could this rattling be because I need to replace the jack plate or the speakers?

Thanks so much

Ryan

Re: Can't figure out why my cab is shorting out?

The jackplate has a little circuit board that allows the different wiring configurations...stereo at 8 ohms each side, or mono at 16 ohms or 4 ohms. There could be an issue with that board and its circuitry.

X2. Check that board in the cab for any broken solder joints. If you find some and you know how to solder, reflow the connections on the board.

Could also be faulty jacks as well. Speaker cabs as well as everything in/on them is subject to vibration, on top of the plugging in and out of the cable itself, which is known to loosen shit up.
