79 JMP 2204 with effects loop mod...devalue, tone??

Need thoughts on a marshall jmp 2204 with and effects loop modification. Someone used one of the speaker jacks and added another jack and created an effects loop. This mod left only one speaker jack. Does this sort of mod effect tone in any way? what about value of the amp now that it has been modified. Any thoughts greatly appreciated!!

Re: 79 JMP 2204 with effects loop mod...devalue, tone??

I'd pay well over a thousand for an untouched Marshall. Lightly modded, I wouldn't pay over $800, sacrificing a speaker jack and drilling holes in the chassis, less than $700.

...that's just my opinion though. some people might pay more for molested Marshalls. I'm a mod snob. I don't like degrading pieces of history. That stuff could be reversed though, may fetch a little more money.

ANY recommended idle current is a guideline and in no way a necessary requirement. There is no skeleton key for any tube amp.

It certainly devalues the amp, so don't pay top dollar if you're thinking of buying.
Most loop mod can be reversed if necessary, but it will cost you.
Whether it affects the tone depends on who did the job and what type of loop they installed. FX Loop mods range from very poor quality cheap jobs to completely transparent excellent jobs and the tone varies accordingly.

Thanks all! Great advice. I think I'm going to get it and have the famous Pete Cage undo the mod.
