Silly question. I have a nice little MG 15 CDR...it is 15 watts and I want to replace the speaker with a Celestion Super 8. Is this pretty easy to do? I haven't yet modded any amps. Thanks

Re: Replacing a speaker
"Easy" is really up to your skills I suppose. At the age of 17 I replaced the speaker in my Fender Champ; it was easy. Took 5 minutes. Assuming the mounting holes line up and you get the right impedence, and access is easy, it SHOULD be an easy swap...you might have to solder the two wires...that's about it.

Re: Replacing a speaker
Don't mean to be a dick, but if you're playing a little MG15 and want to upgrade on some tone, you need to be thinking about amplifiers and not speakers right now.
I know you're trying to experiment and that's great, it's awesome to want to progress, but I'm telling you right now you're trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. but to answer your question, speaker swapping is incredibly easy. plus to plus, minus to minus. you won't even have to solder anything

Re: Replacing a speaker
While your in there - how about adding a switched jack so you can plug in a larger cab and cut out the internal speaker? Through a 4x12, this makes my little MG10 sound less like a swarm little bees and more like a huge swarm of really BIG bees!

Re: Replacing a speaker
LOL, well my practice amp is now my DSL full stack. I find I practice a lot more than I used to when I'd use a crappier setup! Besides, if you're not at least near rehearsal volume doing band songs, you really aren't "practicing" in my book. Unless you're just learning a song or doing finger exercises, "practice" includes all the dynamics that the cranked amp offers.

Re: Replacing a speaker
Well Gents,
I ordered and replaced the speaker with a G8 Vintage 8 Celestion...totally changed the sound of this amp and rocks! My wife couldn't believe the difference. I am totally psyched that I now have this little practice amp to take out on the porch and still not have the neighbors getting pissed at me..

Yeah, his nearest neighbors are like 60 miles away. He told me he lives in "Heathen Land." Even Mel Gibson won't go there.
