MG30dfx modded for crunch?
First of all, I'm new to the forum and hopefully will enjoy browsing it daily
![]() I have an MG30DFX for practicing in my room while at college and think it's just the right kind of amp for what I need. My big problem with it is the distortion channel. I heard another version of this amp that had both a crunch AND a distortion channel and was wondering if anyone knew how to fiddle with the distortion circuit to give it more of a crunch sound. I've read a lot of these threads and have read enough "save money and buy a tube." I have no money. Just enough to buy components for a possible mod in the amp itself. I'm fairly technically proficient and should be able to do the work myself if it is possible. Any information on this would be much appreciated. Thanks, -Luke |

Re: MG30dfx modded for crunch?
Those MG overdrive circuits are rather fizzy, and if you turn the gain right down to try for a more classic crunch, it just sounds crackly. The new series are a bit better at crunch, but for what you have, Id suggest getting an overdrive pedal of your choice, through the clean channel. For great build quality, sound quality and very low price, its hard to beat a Bad Monkey from Digitech.

Re: MG30dfx modded for crunch?
I have a BOSS DS-1, but it sounds really weird through the MG. I have a Peavey xm-6 head and cabinet (i know it's a PA amp, not a guitar one) and it sounds MUCH different through that. I guess i'll look around for a better pedal then.
