Valvestate 8200

So the amp I just bought makes a little static crackle if you tyr and adjust the volume pot while playing. I knew this before i bought it, and it's not really that big of a deal. Any ideas on how I can fix though? Loose wire, a little corrosion on the pot etc.

Just wondering if anyone has had the same/similiar problems and any insights before i open the bad boy up.

Thanks.

Re: Valvestate 8200

if you are feeling up to the task of pulling the chassis out of the box , you could try some electrical contact cleaner ( NO !! ....not wd-40 !! ) as some have suggested .
if you can get to the volume pot , spray cleaner into the pot and turn the pot back & forth several times until the noise goes away , if you repeat this procedure more than
2 times and the noise is still there , then you will have replace the pot itself.

NOTE : EVEN SOLID STATE AMPS HAVE CAPS THAT CAN SHOCK YOU !!!!!
BE CAREFULL IF YOU ARE INSIDE YOU AMP , IF YOU ARE NOT
COMFORTABLE WORKING INSIDE THE AMP , TAKE IT TO A QUALIFIED
TECH FOR SEVICE .

Try using a new preamp tube or a noise gate. Most amps have a little noise, I'll check my AVT for you in a couple days and tell you if I notice this problem.

good call on that one !!!

yes , thats one of the best simple tune up you could give your amp , change your preamp tube . i 'm currently looking for some mods for this amp . i have
a guy who i just built a custom pedal board for who has one of these heads
and we installed a new tube and it woke that amp right up , sounded way better with a freash tube , it still had the original marshall tube in it !! from
97 or 98 !!!!!!!

Re: Valvestate 8200

Yeah the guy i bought it from got it from his parents when he was in high school, don't think he really did ANY maintenance on it. The volume cuts out if you touch the volume, makes a little woosh-pop sound when you turn it on. Im sure openning it up, replacing the tube, and just cleaning it up will do wonders.

Re: Valvestate 8200

mesa boogie and groove tubes are no producers of tubes...
they get their tubes from producers in china, russia and slovakia (yes they use JJ's!!!)

you just pay more for a restamp... especially with mesa!
maybe you want to go NOS... if that may make a difference with valvestates

Thanks everyone. New tube JJ s went in last night and cleaned all the pots. Sounds like new! The distortion is a lot crisper and tighter
