fuse blows - bridge rectifier?

hi. i have had problems with my jcm600 amp head. the sound would fade out and the pre amp tubes would stop glowing. i assumed that it might be the bridge rectifier. i got my bro to replace it, but he used one from a rechargeable drill lol! he assured me that this would be fine. it certainly looked the same.
anyway, the amp worked perfectly for a few days. until a few days ago. i turned on the amp, let it warm up, then as soon as i flicked the standby, it gave out a bang. i thought it might be the fuse, because i had no sound. changed it (seeing as it had blown) and the same thing happened.
does anyone think it might be the bridge rectifier causing this?
thanks for any advice.

Did your brother get it out of the drill or the charger? I'm assuming it was a 6 volt model. Nonetheless, interchanging parts like that usually lead to disaster. I would have to strongly recommend that you take the amp in to a qualified service tech and let him make the necessary repairs. This is not an issue that can be rectified by people posting on this thread with ideas of what might be wrong with your amp. Your amp has a serious problem. Address it by taking it to a tech.

Re: fuse blows - bridge rectifier?

probably, it's time to retube... i'm not positive but this should be the first step you take. don't change parts around if they aren't the same, looking the same and being the same are a lot different. Never switch anything out unless you are familiar with electronics and know the value of the component you are replacing. resistors and little parts like that sometimes have hairline values and if you have something incorrect in it's place it will not function properly.
deciding to work off of an assumption is taking one hell of a leap of faith. time to go to a tech and make sure that bridge rectifier is correct.

Trust me, it will be worth the money and peace of mind.
