JMP Super Bass 100W

Hi there,

I am a newbie to vintage marshall amp; recently I picked up a vintage marshall amp - JMP Super Bass 100W from a local private dealer; I have no idea of which year it was made in (The guy who sold it to me does not have a clue as well, i guess he is not that professional afterall). Anyone else here know where I can find reference to check the date out ?

Currently, I put EH-12AT7 & EH-EL34 inside it. I have no experience of changing tubes for amp, I have no idea of which kind of tubes has good tone to go with this amp. Does anyone has suggestions of what tubes I should try with this amp ? I heard someone said different tubes has different characteristic, so what if I really into vintage amp sounds, something like what John Frusciante's sounds, any tubes can come close to his sound?

Anyways, thanks for all suggestions and help in advance !!!

Thanks a million !!!

If your serial number starts with letter A,B,C etc. it's easy to date. A started in July '69 B = '70, C = '71 etc. If it is older than July '69 it is a little more difficult to find the date but you may be able to get an idea by reading date codes on the pots, transformers and caps, but then it is only an estimate since those parts could be surplus from years before the date of manufacture.

Thanks man, I think mine is from 1974, the serial number (NOT starts) ends with "F", then I guess F should = 1974, thanks man !!!!

BTW, you have any suggestion of tubes ? I am really want to start to experiment with tubes.

Re: JMP Super Bass 100W

"F" Would be a 1974 and it is on the end of the serial number. Also, a point I had forgotten is that the letter "B" was skipped because it ran for 18 months. The letters "I', "O" and "Q' were also skipped because of their similarity to numbers.
There are some people on here that are more knowledgeable about tubes than I am, so I'll leave that subject for others to answer. MartyStrat54 should be able to help you out with that.
