DSL solo boost mod

Hey all, new member here.
After many frustrating years of tweaking Mesa's I traded my last amp, an F-50 for a 50 watt DSL head and all I can say is I wish I bought the DSL 20 years ago. It would have saved me many years of grief and lots of money. I love the amp.

I'm thinking of adding a solo boost master volume. I've had this feature on others amps and used it frequently. I'm thinking it may not be that hard to do. I'm looking for some tech support here so any experienced amp guys please feel free to chime in.

I think all I need to do is add another volume pot of the same value as the existing master volume (for the red channel). Run wires from the 3 legs of the pots in parallel but splitting the ground legs to a foot switch.

So basiclly the 2 volume pots are wired in parallel with the ground leg broken at a switch. Does this sound about right?

If so, I'm am wondering if I would need to add a capacitor somewhere to prevent a pop when switching between volumes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: DSL solo boost mod

so....this is what i've found so far with my research.....
the other guitarist in the band has a dsl100 jcm2000, and he needs a boost for solos. at first i thought.....hey, let's get you an attenuator to go between the head and the cab, then rig an expression pedal with a knob to set the minimum to work with the attenuator.
expensive solution.
rigging a second volume knob is the best idea......i'm having someone who has done a lot of my electrical work check it out this weekend. as soon as he comes up with a solution, i'll ask him about the capacitor to prevent the pop and post it here.
just a quick question......where are you planning to place the new footswitch jack on your head??
