Almost finished with my JCM2000 DSL RR tribute amp

Finished wiring up the cab last night and just a few more tweaks with the head and logos and I'll have finished my JCM 2000 DSL RR inspired amp. The custom cab actually has better tone than my last one. It has more depth in size and it seems like it is made with higher quality wood. The sound is a little more warm and full for sure.

Mate this will be AWESOME! I wondered what they looked like in white. You'll have the same type of gain as Randy (not the 3 tracks on diary that have the casacade) minus the omph, saturation, etc...! but hey, great amp! when I use this amp for a 'randy' tone I've stopped useing the MXR Dist +. you don't need it! (the amp gets a 'square wave' sound when you use the DIST +) What speakers are you running? COn GRATs!

Re: Almost finished with my JCM2000 DSL RR tribute amp

Notice I said tribute amp. Obviously its not a plexi or superlead but I can get a pretty close tone to his with my les paul. Though I use lots of mids in my tone, he scooped his mids anyway which kind null and voids using a plexi in my opinion. The magic was never in his tone anyway, it was in his fingertips. Now if you took EVH's tone and applied it to Randy Rhoads playing, then you'd really have somehthing.

Regardless this is more about the look more than anything. I just love that clean white marshall look. The old cab next to it is haggard.

I'm using G12T-75s. Though I may switch to something else in the future. Loving this amp now!

Maybe in the bass strings you can capture his tome, but only a 4 holer has that RR lead sound and feel.

Re: Almost finished with my JCM2000 DSL RR tribute amp

Yeah I'm sure, but again I'm not worried about capturing his sound. I have my own sound in the band I'm in. Maybe down the road I'll get a 1959RR style head, but I'm happy with this for now.

that and he hated Marshalls. he only used them because they were the only amps to do the job. he never liked the tone at all. he did like his little Fender though.

Haha! I'll post a final picture when I slap the logos on tonight. I really wanted the vintage look but the versatility and reliability of the jcm 2k. More projects to come soon!

other than routine maintanance the vintage amps are far more reliable but the rest i get. make sure you do the 8/4 ground mod if yo use anything other then the 16 ohm impedance.

i think i'll probably get another DSL100 thogh because they're great sounding amps and with some work CAN be reliable but they're dirt cheap for marshall tube tone.

Re: Almost finished with my JCM2000 DSL RR tribute amp

Man oh man!?! That 'cascade' gain sound? Noway! that standard EL34 marshall gain (just string vibration) yes way! EVEN on the transistor marshall Master Lead with (wait for it) the G12m 70! OH NO, NO WAY! You're an XXXX! no it's true guys, you can have the tribute tone if you choose. a $120 dollar amp! (the same settings as randy) (but don't tell anyone!). Randy had the 'dark tone' Les paul' so he warmed the tone with the EQ (not scooped out tone). Mrs Rhoads said 'Randy said "the Marshall was THE amp to have". ( I believe little old ladies before what is written on the internet). I've already put the settings for the DSL 'Randy Rhoads' tone on the forum, look it up and try it!
