Noob Looking for Parts
Hi, M8's,
Well, picked up my first Marshall last night, an MG80RCD. Got it cheap because it's a fixer-upper. Been surfing around for parts, not much luck yet, but I figured the peeps here would know where to get the best parts at the best prices. So, the first problem I need to fix is that the shafts for the pots for bass and midrange on the clean channel are completely broken off. I was able to find a parts list for this amp online, and it says the specific pots I need are a P105A (100Ka) and a P503b (5Kb). Anybody have a recommendation for a source in the USA...or UK, if that fails? I also need to get like 3-4 push-on knobs, although these don't seem too hard to find. Haven't seen them in packages of less than 15, though...anyone interested in going in halves on a set with me? She's a bit buzzy when plugged in and not being played...we'll see if she still is after a thorough cleaning, checking connections and replacing those broken pots. Thanks, and look forward to hearing your recommendations. -Mike

Re: Noob Looking for Parts
Have you tried Mouser Electronics - Electronic Component Distributor, in the US?
It sounds like it is a 100k audio taper(A) pot and a 5k linear taper(B) that you need. As long as the physical size matches, any should work, but also try to get them wit the same type of shaft so Marshall knobs fit.

Re: Noob Looking for Parts
Thanks for the recommendation. I found some pots with these values, but the shafts are way different. I'm going to keep looking, but at least I have some options. In the meantime, the gain channel's sounding pretty nice, and I've eliminated most of the buzz. Looks like I picked a winner!
