Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project
Not the new jensens no... I thought about it though...
the tonker is 150 watt 16 ohm and the jet city was 70 watt 16 ohm... the one 16 ohm jensen I have is also 70 watt, so I figured maybe they would match better and sound better together... but they dont really... Tonker sounds better, but not totally convinced that the jet city is toast... the 4 new jensens are 8 ohm 25 watt, so I would have to wire them in series and have 50watt 2 x 12. I'm sure It would be ok, but dont want to mess them up before I get them in the 4 x 12.... (which will be a while based on my progress so far) |

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project
sounding better with 2 braces and the back closed up... think it's as good as I can get with those 2 speakers... bracing does seem to make a noticeable difference... maybe because its 1/2" ply....

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project
Really nice work man, I have been watching your progress so far! Two Questions:
1) Is the speaker mounting piece of wood supposed to be in two pieces? 2) Is this an all-glue construction or are you going to use screws? The speakers weigh a bit. I have no idea about cabinet construction, so I'm just asking, not criticizing. |

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project
thanks, well I'm far from an expert but from my research it's 2 pieces of wood, almost has to be given the angle. There is a strip that goes across the back that holds the 2 pieces together (i'm still working on it see below). It will also have 1/2" strips across the front, framing the 2 pieces (my next step). the grill goes over the strips and floats above the baffle. I'm using screws and titebond II glue for all the braces. the rabbet joints between the top, bottom and sides are pl/premium glue only. I know a rabbet joint is not the strongest, but I'm not really setup to do finger joints. I did some testing and the wood rips apart before the glue joint does (both with pl/premium and titebond II in my tests). I may add a few extra braces from the inside if I can. they would have to be located so that I can get baffle in through the back... we'll see, I think it will be plenty strong. the 2 x 12 I did is all titebond II glue, no screws and it has held up well...

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project
The 2 x 12 as braced in the pic (with the back put on), no effects just marshall MV around 2 and gain 7 or so.... (sorry for the playing i went where the guitar took me...)
cab sounds better huh? Marshall JMP 2203 after repairs and after bracing 2x12 cab - YouTube |
