That is why I posted the other JCM2203 vids cause I don't hear it in any of there vids.
yeah I hear ya, I can say it sounds better in person than the recordings I made, but it's not on par with the vids you posted. I really think it's the cab... tonight was just a sony hand held about 3 feet from the amp, so I know its picking up background noise, tv was on too... I really wanna play it trough a 4 x 12....

the feedback horn happens with my DSL as well, especially with the epi les paul (which is what I was playing tonight)... If I get too close to the amp/cab it will bark bad.... thing is its more pronounced on the videos, i mean you hardley notice it unless you are real close to the amp, but on the video you hear it all over the place?

Exactly, it sounds like a different cabinet would do you best. Great job on bringing it back to life!

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project

I got this sonic cabinet off craigslist for under $200
Doesn't sound to bad either.

And a recording with my camera phone (which sounds very close to the original sound) with the ADA pre-amp just out of the shipping box I got new that day. Since then I have dialed in the ADA and it's even better.

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project

The amp I'm working on bringing back to life is a Danelectro Cadet #122 It's about from the mid 50's to early 60's. Use to work and sounded great with a TS-9 TS and a DOD "classic Tube" pedal combined pushing it. About as close to my "holy Grail" tone that I'm looking for, problem is it only has a 6 in speaker that looks like it came out of my 67 Chevelle when it was new. It died a bit back, tubes light up, but no sound anymore. Just haven't had time to mess with it.

Here it is next to the purple Kramer

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project

Thanks, now that I've had the ADA mp-1 for a while I have it dialed in even better, just don't have any new recordings yet. The ADA give it that 80's metal sound just right!

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project

cheap ones to start with... jensen C12R 25... 4 of them $180 shipped.
not 100% sure what I want anyway and don't want to plunk down big bucks until i'm more certain.

plan is to focus on the cab and then sell the jensens and buy some better speakers later... Trying to make it close to a 1960TV...

I cracked the back on my 2 x 12 and I think it sounds better! going to cut the back and make it an open back cab... I'll get some recordings of it this weekend...

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project

thanks! I knew I built a solid cab, no screws in it to vibrate and its sealed/braced good. when i opened the back up the squak got better but it was still there, swapped the speaker and its gone! I bet they dropped the damn thing or it got messed up in shipping... I have to work at the day job today, will get some clips later or tomorrow.

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project

still bit of "horn" there... I tracked it down to anytime I play a G on the low E string with lots of distortion (ie. preamp gain past 6 or 7) it will make noise... Not sure what to make of it, the 2203 and DSL both do it so I guess it's the cab. seems to be better after the speaker swap though...

That's the single biggest improvement that I can hear so far! Is this with the new Jensens?

I assume you're talking about the removable backing to the headshell and not the chassis.

I have the back plate off. I like the tubes to get more air especially since there is a quad of them. That and I will roll tubes in and out of the amp too. Mostly though I want better ventilation and be able to see if the power tubes are red plating or not. Just something I do at home since I don't have to worry about someone running into or dropping something into it like if it were being transported and gigged.

I'd say take it off and let it breath.

Re: my '79 JMP 2203 project

since the new jensen with the tonker still had a bit or horn sound I did some experimenting and put the old jet city back in with the jensen, added a brace to the cab going from the rear to the front, oh and cut half the back off to make it open back... it sucks lol...

oh and this is with different preamp tubes, got 3 on ebay for cheap, take outs from a barely used jcm800 the guy said... but who knows...

CHEERS! tgif...
