HELP replacing top vent - JCM900 SL-X

I assumed that you could easily replace a broken top rectangular plastic vent on a JCM900 SL-X, figuring there was a nut, clip, etc. on the inside behind the rivets... but nothing...what holds them in, how do they come out, etc.....?
The vent is available but I can't get the rivets out....don't want to force anything or make it worse. Anybody done this job.....?

i've always heard you have to drill those rivets out on marshall vents and corner protectors.

Wow, you may be right, but it seems a little dastic!!! I would think it's some type of press fit since it doesn't go all the way through, but I must admit that trying to pry them up with a flathead screwdriver doesn't seem to budge them, though I didn't want to use a lot of force and make it worse. Anybody got any better ideas, tips, tricks....

I think you're right about that! I did some searching on another site and they said the same thing. I also saw how the rivets compress and then expand out into the wood. They are actually more stable than screws, etc...., just a lot harder to replace when needed.
You have to centerpunch them slightly(safer if you remove the chassis), use a small drill to get a good centered starter hole, then drill with the proper size to break down the rivet without getting into the wood and remove the old remnants, replace with new rivet and hopefully that'll do it...........
Thanks for your contribution and confirmation that this is necessary-no easy tricks......

Re: HELP replacing top vent - JCM900 SL-X

I wonder why they used rivets.. Must wanted the SL-X to be bullet proof. My JCM 2000 DSL has vents that are clipped in.

Re: HELP replacing top vent - JCM900 SL-X

Every vent I've ever seen...including the one on my silver jubilee...is riveted. Not sure of the DSL's.

Be careful drilling it.
Just like you said, start small, in the center, work up to the full size bit.

I guess they started inserting with clips with the JCM 2000s.
