2555SL Jubilee with Crap Tone

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and this is my first post.

I have a problem with my Slash Sig. Marshall Head. The tone (to my ears is definitely missing something. It sounds like:
-it is compressed where there are no dynamics whatsoever
-I would also describe the tone as tight, not tight like chunky palm-mute bottom but no feeling to the tone. Dry even when gain is high.
-it has a bit of distortion when on the clean channel with gain at about 3
-High gain is muddy
-Clean tone is incredibly jangly. Almost need an EQ to smooth out the mids.
-No bottom end unless bass on 10 then it becomes muddy and I'm running in to a 1960AV cabinet, so I figure I should have plenty. Also have a Behringer 4410A Combo Bass Amp that blows away the Marshall with bottom. (I know its a bass amp but it only have 4 - 10's vs Marshall 4 - 12's).
-I currently have 12AX7 Tung-Sol preamp and 6CA7EH from Electro-Harmonix. It was retubed and biased by myself less than 6 months ago.

I remember how this amp used to be and it had more life. Now its dull. Almost thought about selling it but after reading other people's descriptions of this amp, I think mine has a problem.
Anyone had any problem similar to this or know what might be the problem?

Please help!!!

Joel

recheck your bias , some times amp techs talk about " bias drift " as the tubes burn in
they tend to sound " not right on ", also tone caps are famous for going south, it could
be many things , i know that amp well and they sound great when you spend some time
on them.

+1

And fwiw, even relatively new valves can go bad quickly so be sure to check the tubes.

I'm also not sure how Tung Sol's would do in those amps. I'd spend a few dollars and check out a few others such as Penta's, JJ's and EHX in different positions to see how that helps.

As for the power section I recommend the SED Winged C's or Mullard EL-34's. I never did like EHX power tubes in my Jubilee amps. They made the tone disappear to my ears.
