2204 JCM 800 Lost Power - Turns Off
I have been visiting this forum for quite some time now and this is my first post. The wealth of information that is shared and made available to a guitar player who happens to have an amp is awesome!!!
So instead of posting a "I NEED HELP" thread or something to that effect I figured I would post a solution. It isn't earth shattering, but it had me guessing??? RIG [JCM 800] I have a 1986 2204 JCM 800 that I play through an Orange 4x12 cab. SYMPTOM [Amp lost Power] One day, when playing at normal "band practice" volume the whole rig just shut off. Red power light went dim, no sound. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it was good to go again. Same thing happened a couple weeks later, and then again. I took it to (2) repair guys in the Chicago-land area and both said that they couldn't find anything wrong with it. SOLUTION [New Power Switch] Simple solution right, who would have thought it would take the third repair guy to figure it out ... he checked out the amp by playing it fully dime'd, and ten minutes in he got the same thing, the amp just turned off. Long story short, it need a new $8 power switch. I guess there was some corrosion on the switch, so he swapped it out and the amp was as good as new. So there you have it, hopefully this helps someone. Thanks to everyone for sharing. |
