Re: Mercury Magnetics
anyone who is trying to sell something is going to say its the best, i have had conversations with a couple amp techs and also have done the MM Mod for a valve jr. imo they are nothing special, and we can all agree they are over priced. i would never buy them for any of my amps.

Re: Mercury Magnetics
I have them in my JCM 2205 and JTM 60 and JTM 45..They sound really good and loud, the quality speaks for itself..The hype is true...Expensive, but well worth the cost.. The old Drake irons are not the same as the new ones..The new ones are very poorly wound, compared to Mercury winds..Cheap materials..

Would a 1998 Drake OT be considered "old / better" or did you mean older then that?

Re: Mercury Magnetics
The original Marshalls..From the conception of Marshall to the early 60's..Built like a tank..Marshall's have always been a cost effective..Allot of cheap components..The new Drake and Dagnalls..Run real hot...My 2205 VooDoo gets warm to the touch, not hotter then hell, after a good thrashing...Mercury Irons are not cheap!!,,Neither is great TONE..
