Biasing and FXloop problem

OK, I have a Marshall TSL 60 amp.

Firstly, I have bought new tubes, but not BIASed them.
It does sound like a tubeamp, but it doesn't have the punch that it should.
However, I use the emulated output, thus only the preamp.
Can I expect a true tubesound from only the preamp?

If yes, may the tubes be wrong, or the biassing wrong?

Second question:
My FX loop does not work as it should. My friend has a Marshall TSL100, so I'm comparing mine to his.

For example, my Chorus doesn't sing at all in the loop, however outside it (direct to input) it sounds superb, as it should. Also, I must have the FXboost inserted, and FXlevel on 10 to even make my delay sound present.

Does the tubeproblem have anything to do with the FXloop at all?

If not, what can be the problem here? The fact that my chorus doesn't sound at all is really making me think they've used some wrong components in the amp.

Also, all effects are much louder when I'm at the lean channel. Example is my loop pedal, in clean it's too loud (almost), and in gain the FXvoluem drops significantly, and I can't even closely jam to my loop pedal.

This was a bit messy, but I hope it makes sense.
Hoping for a clear reply!

Regards from Norway.

Re: Biasing and FXloop problem

you need to bias the amp if you fitted new power tubes/valves EL 34,its easy on this amp if you have a multi meter set on millivolts.somewhere between 75 to 80 mv i think? the Fx volume on mine has to be on max to get the best from the loop, even then i'm not over whelmed.

Re: Biasing and FXloop problem

I see. I don't use powertubes, I have taken them out, because I have no cabinet. The amp 's transformer blows if I keep the powertubes on with no load.

And the Chorus sounds like shit in the FXloop.
If I keep it in direct line, it only works with clean channel. if I play with gain, the chorus makes my sound flicker.
I love my chorus, so this is really annoying! My friend that has a TSL100, has his chorus in the FXloop and it sounds awesome!
There must be something wrong.

Re: Biasing and FXloop problem

you dont use the valves? no speakers? sorry im confused. you wont get a punch or even a slap without the valves and speakers. how are you listening to it?
the pre amp tubes shape your sound but the real work is then done by the power stage tubes, and it they ain't in your sound ain't punching.
i would couple up to a cab and start again.

Re: Biasing and FXloop problem

I don't have a cab. I use the emulated output to my soundcard, and use headphones.

However, this shouldn't have anything to do with the FXloop right?
