JCM800 Mod question for Techs

Hi guys, new member here. I have a 1984 4010 combo, with vertical inputs. I don't use the DI jack, and I'd like to remove it and put a footswitch jack in its place, for a solo boost... hopefully.

I've read some posts about simply switching a 10K resistor in and out of parallel with the 10K cathode resistor for a slight gain boost for solos. And also mention of needing to use a cap to prevent "pop" when switching.

My question is: Can somebody describe this mod in good detail, or provide a schematic, and offer advice on cap value?
