What Preamp Tubes?

Hi, i have a 1980 JMP 2203 head, and im going to get her retubed, but im not sure which preamp tubes to go with since im new to the tube game. i believe theyre 12ax7/ecc83's. im after kind of a beefed up page tone with more bass, or a slash type tone with less searing gain compared to appetite. I was looking at grooves tubes but cant really tell the difference between the gt-12ax7-r, r2 and r3. any body have any suggestions?

jj's are good, eh's are good.....give bob at eurotubes a ring, tell him what kind of tone your looking for and see what he suggests!

I've a set of JJ's in my JCM800 2203. They're a little bit dark for my liking (I'm a big Slash fan too). A lot of people recommend Tung-Sol for V1 and I've one on order. I'll let you know how I get on.
In case you're wondering my JCM got "the snip" so it doesn't have a treble cap anymore, I'm not actually a fan of high pitched shrill noises!!

I've become a huge fan of the Sovtek 12AX7WB. I have them in the V1 position and it makes my amp come alive.
