Re: 1959 re issue problem!!

no one even has an idea of what this could be?

its NOT a dirty pot. its not that kind of noise. almost like a
micro phonic thing going on as you turn it up.

and like i sad, when the volume on the amp is all the way down,
it still passes signal. quite a bit actually.

is this a major thought provoker? it cant be that bad can it?

ANY ideas?

Re: 1959 re issue problem!!

Your signal from the guitar is then very high. are you using an over drive or distortion pedal or anything that has a level or drive control turning these up will pass a current even if your pot is turned right down because all the pot is is a resistor and if your signal is too strong this will come through any way, for example i use an epiphone les paul with two humbuckers when i play it in the middle position with all the volumes down even on the guitar i will hear the guitar because the signal is so strong. on the other hand having a very high signal will also allow an earlier distortion curve which is alway nice especially if your amp is too loud to be cranked.

As for noisey when its turned up im not sure are you using it with a daisy chain for example if you do this do you have one volume up realy high then the other real low. because the first part of the amp will then be driving realy hard into the second part, thus you will be getting a hiss and when you turn up the volume it may squeal cus your standing so close. your probably better to daisy chain it an use both volumes as EQs ie. the normal channel as bass and the bright one as treble then mess about with it.I think Randy Rhoads had a plexi although modded a bit he had the volumes at 6 and 6.5. you will have to turn it up to get a bit of distortion. On the other hand an overdrive pedal or tubescreamer work a charm. Hope this was helpful.

Maybe the pot is defective, not just dirty? Grasping at straws here.
