end of effects chain, split to amp and small mixer for headphones.
i want to use headphones to monitor my sound onstage. i used to use a Boss GT-8 with the headphone out, into a small mixer, then use headphones (earbuds) from there.
now i have a pedal board i built. my idea is to use a Morley ABY switch plugged into the end of the effects chain, to split the signal into my amp and my mixer. my amp is a Marshall MG100hdfx, the mixer is a Beheringer Xentx 502 and the last effect in the chain is a Digitech Digidelay. is this safe? and if so, is this the best, or only way to do this? just checkin' before i spend the money or damage something. thanks, everyone is always helpful on here.

Re: end of effects chain, split to amp and small mixer for headphones.
i don't think i've complicated my life, well maybe a tiny bit till i get it all together. price you gotta pay to get a sound your happy with. i've seen people go alot farther to get a sound they are happy with. i'm trying to get away from the gt-8. cause i'm tired of tweaking, and tweaking, and doing more tweaking. then when i forget how to tweak (after it sits for awhile), i have to relearn how to tweak again.
besides that, i think it sounds so much better than the gt-8, more punch and in your face sound. and i can make adjustments to my sound on the fly in the middle of a show quickly. without trying to remember what buttons to push, after i have a few beers in me. LOL |

I have that xenix and that digi delay. I cant see any problem, the output of the delay is OK to drive a line input, and the Xenix is a great little unit. Of course, you will only be monitoring your raw signal before the amp, so you'll miss out on amp tone in your ear. This is where the GT8 was different because it could emulate all that too. Doesnt that amp have a headphone out? or if it has a line out, that may be a better source of signal for the headphone mixer.

Yes you can, but a cheaper way is a spliter cable (or plug)
The AB/Y is a better way i think, but you also can replace your Digidelay For a Boss DD delay, wich can split the signal too. And it's a better Delay.

yes, my amp does have a head phone out, but what i do is run a 20ft headphone ext cable, wiretied to my guitar cable to my guitar, run the earbuds up my back and into my ears. can hear my guitar perfectly. with the hair down you can't even see that i'm wearing my earbuds. if i used the headphone out on the amp things would get a little more tricky... ![]() i did buy a Morley aby box, and it works perfectly and sounds good too. |
