Hell yeah, that's exactly it!

It's goddamn addictive, the mid setting; even when I get my fill of it, I still keep going back every few minutes, in between playing other things. LOL

Also just grabbed this baby, finally. Having a blast, so far.

Fantastic overdrive, blends really well with a pumping 2204, and the "forbidden" setting is insanely fun:

Re: Dedicated overdrive/clean boost your Marshall thread.

There's a lot of Fulltone stuff on here, but nothing about the Fulltone Catalyst. Demo's on youtube on this pedal sound great. Reviews look good too. I'd mostly be using it for clean boost on stage, so I could probably save a few bucks by chosing something else. But it's appealing to me that there's both crunchy OD and fuzz on one pedal. Those would be nice to play with when I record, and I'm looking for some variation from my stock Marshall sound. Anyone ever try the Catalyst?

How does it sound at volume? Have you cranked your amp a bit with it? I love an OD that blends instead of over taking the amp with its color or messy gain structure. Its sweet when you find a pedal that mixes with the Marshall. So much more fun IMO.

I don't know anything about the Catalyst.

Re: Dedicated overdrive/clean boost your Marshall thread.

i have been using a mxr micro-amp for the past 3 years in my rig... personally i love the pedal, real simple to use and small... i am really picky on tone and to my ears it does the job fine enough...

traded in a cheap POS digitech chorus pedal for the micro amp (knew the guy at the local music store) so i was instantly sold on the deal....

Oh yeah, it blends really nice, is barely noticeable (using the Overdrive setting, which is similar to a TS). Just a nice thickening, extra crunch and sustain added. You can go for the TS mid emphasis, using the 'Guitar' setting,' or get more of an all-around boost, using the "Bass" setting (these were added to the reissue, to help correct the bass-suck-out of the original, giving you the choice between the original or a new, bass-retaining effect).

I do need to roll the pedal's Tone knob down to 9:00 or so, if I want a totally seamless switch, however keeping it higher and having that extra bit of brightness can be good for cutting through, too.

There's a great Legendary Tones review here (although he doesn't fully appreciate the "Forbidden" setting," which is a fucking awesome feature).

Alright bruther I started to drool a little while I was reading that review of the pedal. Thanx for the GAS for it. Sounds like a real useful and toneful pedal. I may give it a go cause I like alot of those tones its built for. I don't care about modern heavy tones so when I'm looking at pedals it doesn't have to please me in an all out gain effort. I prefer the blues, rock and up to heavy rock gains.

Totally, it's very useful and multi-applicable, esp. in those areas. I don't know if its "boutique tone," but it's definitely ROCK'N'ROLL tone.

All in all, damn good bang for the buck. Basically 2-3 pedals in one, I picked up mine for about $100 Canadian.

I just brought home my tubescreamer about 2 hours ago with my jcm800 I hooked up yesterday, and WOW it brought the amp alive, I had THAT tone I have been looking for, it was the best moment of my life, I am still thrilled. I sound like somehting in between GnR and Britny Fox. I love it! Now just for some type of echo and I will be good to go!

This pedal even the Reissue isn't available any more or did I just not look hard enough? I mean at an online shop not Evilbay.

And thats what a good pedal can do for a Marshall! There are alot pedals out there that give a Marshall a nice push without kill'n the voice. I got to use my Homebrew Germania at volume today and man did it put it in a beautiful place.

I've never played the amp that loud(4)with the pedal and it totally changed at volume from where the pedal had boosted it around 2 before. The power tubes really added another dimension at that level. It was my Strat runn'n into the pedal through my 412 of Greenbacks with delay in the loop.

Noice!

Yeah, it's not in production anymore, unfortunately. Sorry I didn't mention that.

I found mine used, from a guy about 10min from my house, so I jumped on it.

They come up every now and then, I've seen two go up on Craigslist in Toronto in the past few months, not counting the one I just bought.

The really tough to find ones are the originals, which apparently do have a different sound (Billy G used both versions), but are a real pain in the ass, with the switches on the inside.

Cool, isn't it great when you find "that sound" and everything gels so nicely. Rock on!

Re: Dedicated overdrive/clean boost your Marshall thread.

Well I ordered an OCD...

Will give my 2 cents when I try it out.

I've been play'n my amp with lower gain and the power section up to get me some nice round, fat tones without fizz. It's been work'n nicely I have to say.

I'm not going for anything more than midgain tones and zeroing in on plexi like tones from the red channel lead 1 and the green crunch channel. The RFT in V1 really warms up the the red channel. V2 is a JP. I'm really liking the variations and am playing with alot more finger/pick dynamics.

The 412 of greenbacks are helping the DSL get there with a couple of pedals sprinkled in(CTO-1 & Boosta Grande). These are handling Lead 1. The Boosta Grande brings in some lows when set at noon. This also warms Lead 1 up. When the gain is set low and the power section up the amp becomes brighter. So the added lows work beautifully. I'm also playing my strat so it's all balancing out here. I feel like a chef throwing together a few ingredients to get that recipe just right hehe.

Hence the OCD to be set for mild boosting & flavoring on the crunch channel. Don't need high gain whatsoever playing how I am now.

Lets see...That's 2 OD's, 1 clean boost, one delay, wah & a tuner on the board. Just need a new chorus for some Leslie effects and subtle ambiance stuff. Straight to the point pedal board for blues/rock and a pinch of Raunch & Roll here and there.

Stoked to fiddle with an SD-1 I picked up yesterday.

Anyone have experience with an SD-1 and a JCM900? I'm a little concerned that the diodes won't play nice w/it. Maybe use it in the loop instead? Hmmm...

Re: Dedicated overdrive/clean boost your Marshall thread.

A- never even heard of this pedal builder before or the pedal itself
B- it will be a rip off of an already in use circuit from other manufactures.
c- IMO ..it sounded ok at best ..( blues is a great player , make no mistake ! )
D- COST 525$ - give me a fuckin break !, you can buy a used marshall head for that .

i wish all these pedal building outfits would stop trying to reinvent the wheel !!
i have done many pedal shootouts over the last year or so , and it seems to me that
alot of cheaper pedals (non boutique) sound just as good or better than alot of these
units costing 250$ to 500$ plus range . and i would not come on this fine forum to state
my case without doing my home work , as many on this forum know i mod pedals as a
small side business etc . i have many friends that work at music stores etc. so i get to
try out many different pedals , and play test all of them ..........there is a few that stand out in the "boutique" arena that i do like .

overated like alot of them , but to be fair , i have not played thru one of these units . what you hear on the video maybe vastly different in person playing it yourself..

Re: Dedicated overdrive/clean boost your Marshall thread.

the ts808hw does sound good , but if you factor in the cost of the unit . its just
too much for the average stomp box guy . besides i have heard better o/d pedals
for far less IMO !!!

Re: Dedicated overdrive/clean boost your Marshall thread.

if you grab an 808 tryin to find your tone your outta luck. (your better off w/a boost) but if ya use it for a little hair (midrange hump) you'll get yourself in the ballpark.
