Pitch Shifter???

Whats a good pitch shifter pedal? I love the sound of Pitch Shifters for lead work and wanted to get one. What are some good ones out there? All advice is welcome.

Re: Pitch Shifter???

I've been meaning to look into pitch shifters, but I haven't really gotten into it that much. The only one I managed to try out is the Boss Harmonist pedal which seemed to do the trick. But I'm looking for more options to base my decision on.

Chiming in is encouraged.

That one sounds pretty nice actually. I usually use MXR pedals but I am pretty sure they don't make a pitch shifter, or atleast I have never seen it.

Imo, its hard to beat the Digitech Whammy for the price, and I believe they just recently released the 5th generation one.

I thought of the Digitech Whammy but isnt it like insane to use because theres so many options on the thing? I could never work my RP90 multi effects.

There are quite a few, but it should be simple to set up.

Re: Pitch Shifter???

I use the regular pitch shifter for boss...its very nice if you use it sparingly. Pros, you can be a one man guitarists, and do a few harmonies and octaves. Cons, it will harmonize in the exact setting you use, so for example, if you set it on 3rds, and on A minor, thats exactly what its gonna do, so a lick like the Trooper is not gonna be exact. Another small gripe, is it has a bit of a computerized, digital sound, but then again, its a pitchshifter? Overall, its a nice pedal!

Not trying to spam or anything, but I use it real quicky at 3:00 of this video...just will give you an idea of the harmony..that lick is in 5ths

Quasar-Kid and Phil Bozeman like this.

Re: Pitch Shifter???

Sounds pretty nice. A like your band too, really cool sound. Do all Pitch shifters have that same problem? You set them to harmonize a certain key and thats all they can do?

Re: Pitch Shifter???

Thanks mate! Yes I believe most intelligent shifters, require you to set a key and position. Of course if you go uber expensive like an Eventide, i think thats a different story!

It sounds alright. It's also one of those things that I personally would only use a few features of, much like my DD-7 Boss Delay (which is stuck on a mild analog delay 24/7). I don't like the drastic whammy application at all. The Three-voice harmony is very impressive though. Boss is quite good at slapping many toys in one box. I'll admit it's fun to **** around with, but that only goes so far.

And yeah, I don't recall seeing any true pitch shifting pedals from MXR. The Blue Box gives you some octaves down mixed with a fuzz. And there's the new Slash Octave Fuzz. I think that's as close as you'll get with MXR.

Thanks Quasi boy! Haha! I appreciate it mate! I just replied to your comment backstage....anyhow, as far as the pitchshifters... I believe SPARINGLY is the best method. It can be a nice little trick in your arsenal!

Definitely, it would get old FAST if you used it more than once or twice at a show. I want it more for messing around in my room lol, I just enjoy it a lot.

Are you after a pitch shifter or harmonizer?
I had the PS6 for a while but after a few months I sold it. I don't think the tone is very good in them. If I was shopping for one now, I'd probably try out the Digitech Harmony Man.

The Blue Box is cool, but only if you want an unpredictable octave & buzzy fuzz. Page's solo in Zep's Fool in the Rain is the best example of the Blue Box in action.

Re: Pitch Shifter???

I am in a 1 guitar band as was another poster said and I use mine quite a bit. In fact, I was just getting my setlist ready for the weekend and I had like 8 songs that I use it in. Some songs I use the minor 3rd, some major 3, some octive up, some octive up/down.

This pedal gets a lot of use. I would never record with it....but it is fine for a club.
