Pedal Power Supplly noise

So I purchased a Dunlop Power Brick for my pedal board. Now I have a humming noise. If I unplug the power supply to my pedals its gone. Maybe I should plug it into a power conditioner? What do you think...

That's weird my VoodoLab PP2 is quiet as a mouse. Can you try it in another location? Different wall socket or different area?

Maybe it's faulty?

Re: Pedal Power Supplly noise

I have two pp2 on my board, no noise at all. I use a monster power strip that is a power conditioner as well. Make sure that the pedals that you are using are being powered by the right amount of milliamps. if the pedal requires a higher amount of power than being provided by the isolated plug that your using, it can introduce noise into your signal chain.

Re: Pedal Power Supplly noise

The DC Brick's power outs are not isolated from each other so it is very possible you have created a ground loop. This is an unfortunate side effect of a non-isolated power supply.

You may have to try powering one or two pedals by batteries or just trying to isolate where the loop begins and what you may need to change.

There may be a simple solution to fixing this like picking up a ground lift device of some sort or switching which wall outlet the power supply is plugged into.

I can build isolated power supplies as well if you're interested in something like that.

Before you do that, those DC BRICKS can get noisy. I know this because I've had the EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN TO ME! LOL.

I used a one for about 3 months, and then then it starting emitting noise. It was not overwhelming, but it was definitely noticeable. Since it was still under warranty, I took it back and got a new one (replacement). Haven't had a problem with the new one once since.

But as a trouble shooting quickie, try a different plug-in location/area in your house to see it there is something in the current room causing the interference.

Re: Pedal Power Supplly noise

Isolate your effects one at a time I think only one is making the noise PS: If you have a Germanium Fuzz Run it on ( 9 Volt Battery Power ) !!!

chances are it's a dirt box power supply making the noise-especially if it's a Boss unit. I only run o.d.'s & distortions w/ batteries. no noise ever.

This. Isolated is the only way to go.

Re: Pedal Power Supplly noise

I never noticed the Dunlop brick being noisy when powering all Dunlop/MXR products, but did get some noise once when adding a Visual Sound J&H pedal and an old Boss chorus. Currently using an old DOD power supply that is isolated & it is dead quiet.

Re: Pedal Power Supplly noise

Its my MXR Phaser. Soon as I plug it into the power brick the noise is there. Even if the pedal is not on. Im going to purchase a new power supply.

Re: Pedal Power Supplly noise

I had issues with pedal noise with the DC Brick. Sold it and used that money to fund a Voodoo Lab ISO-5. Best power supply EVER! No noise and it's compact and has an 18v and 12v out. Best $100 on my board.
