What pedal do you use to boost your volume?
Hello everybody!
I am seriously considering to purchase the 2266C Vintage Modern Combo as my new main amp for gigging. Currently I am using a Line6 POD XTLive with a Crate Powerblock as a power amp into 2x12" cab with Celestion Vintage 30s. I want to simplify my rig and get sort of 'back to basics' but what I do not want to miss is the volume boost I can have with the XTL. What I am doing is to set up the Volume pedal of the XTL that I have my rhythm loudness when it's tilted back and for leads I just put the 'pedal to the metal' ![]() The volume pedal is set POST-preamp, so it basically acts like a master volume without affecting the distortion level of my sound. Do you know some kind of pedal that kind of does this trick? I have a RC Booster from Xotic but I am not sure if this will do the same thing for me. Or has anybody tried to put a volume pedal into the serial FX loop of the Vintage Modern so far? Looking forward to your replies! Rock on! ![]() Last edited by guertzi; 11-16-2007 at 02:26 AM. |

an ed-1 compressor into a behringer tube overdrive then into a Boss ge-7, theres so much great tonal options and its all going into a TSL so each channel can also be set differently, its so versatile and great... well for me at least, + theres a EQ in the loop for cutting/boosting specific frequencies, a bit of a tone freak i guess

For different songs or sounds I use an older Keeley Java Boost set to full range position and also a fulltone '69 fuzz.
Both are used with the amp breaking up (high treble on 8 and normal on 8 both channels linked with a patch lead) I was thinking of getting the Keeley Katana but not sure

If your amp has an effects loop, use a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster. I use it with my Marshalls and my Laney's in the loop. Works like a charm. If you use it in line, it won't work if you have any other pedals. I love mine.

Re: What pedal do you use to boost your volume?
Actually one of my axes has wood so damn dense that my volume boost is to turn its volume knob up all the way. I have to back it off about 1-1/2. I don't know why. It's just this one guitar. Of course the issue might be that it's tuned in C.

Re: What pedal do you use to boost your volume?
in my mind a clean boast is a clean boost....I have not really noticed differences between one or another...
however I only own boutique pedals so???? sometimes I use a fulltone fulldrive 2..it is an older one... I also use a analogeman beano boost which gives you either a Dallas Rangemaster germanium type boost (which adds a certian type of trebal boost) or a clean boost....I know I have another boost sitting around but, can not remember... also you can use a compressor to get a boost but you do get that compressor type tone just some ideas

Re: What pedal do you use to boost your volume?
I use an MXR Microamp from around the early 80's through my effects loop. This means i can then use the effects tweak to also tweak the volume of the boost as well as the volume control on the actual pedal. I dont know whether they still make them, they work really well with tube amps. Doesn't add any distortion or fuzz just pure volume (with a hell of a kick). Ive used it in a 500 capacity theatre with my amp mic'd, no push up on the desk just a step on the pedal and you can get as much volume as you want. Does not suck tone either the pure sound still comes through. Id say its worth researching if you want a good booster.
