More Tube Screamer Goodness...
I bought a soundtank TS-5 years back for $60. Now I am seeing new 808s and TS-9s back in the counters, and I have heard you can mod a TS-9 to an 808. What I was wondering is if the TS-5 is worth the $9 mod (ebay listings claim TS5s & 7s can be done too), if it should be left as is and maybe later used in conjunction with a 9 or 808 (or other od) when I can afford one, or if it should be left alone/sold.
The amps used are below in the sig (both due back from the shop in 1-2 weeks).

a much thicker ,fuller tone imo. and yes you can mod a ts9 to 808 tone , all very easy to do . boss SD1 is also a very good pedal to mod , SD1 and TS9's are very close in there curcuit design , they just use different values in key areas. you will find the TS9 to have a increased mid hump with its EQ. and the SD1 to be more flat , but to have more gain as a rule .

Re: More Tube Screamer Goodness...
A great alternative is the Build Your Own Clone Overdrive 2, fully customizable and easy to build from kit. You can build it as a direct clone of the TS-808 but with much higher quality components which side by side with the TS-808 improves the note fidelity and noise considerably. However, modding it further gives you a much improved overdrive with better harmonics, clipping etc. I would put it up against any boutique overdrive.
Also as a bonus you also get a clean boost which works either independently of the overdrive or in tandem. I just built myself 1 and was immediately impressed, it's a keeper.
