but if anyone finds this thread looking for real answers, i think the catalinbread dirty little secret excels at it. i use it for my marshall sounds if i have to use a different amp.

MI Audio Crunch Box is a good pedal, but the best ones still weigh 50lbs or so

FWIW, I run a HarmonyMan on a looper box to the clean side of the Haze 40 for throwing out the odd harmony. It turns to mud through an overdriven amp, but has a built-in loop for internally processing a distortion pedal. The best I have found to approximate the sound with the HarmonyMan is the Wampler Plextortion. Used sparingly, it can be fairly convincing... but no, it ain't no guitar>cable>amp Marshall sound.
