el34 vrs el84...

what is the tonal differences between el34s and el84s?

and what marshall use el84s.....

I've used both and would have to say that tonaly they're quite similar.
Both have that punchy mid section and break up at the drop of a hat.
The EL84 does usually get used in Class A biased amps and often in a single ended set up (EL34s usally usually appear as Class AB in push pull) and these classes and modes give their own shape to the tone. Comparing the tubes themselves on their own, however, they're quite similar.
Obvioulsy the EL84 has a much lower plate dissipation rating (12W, ouput in Class A is 6W) and therefore puts out less power than an EL34 (25W PD, 25W in Class AB).

a marshall 20/20 uses el84's. has anyone tried the THD yellow jacket adapters to run el84 tubes?
