I have tried many Marshall pedals and the ones I prefere are:
- Old English black Guv'nor: The best IMHO. Lots of gain but works extremely well with a low gain too. 3 very efficient eq. knobs. Gary Moore used one for recording "Still got the blues" and "After hours". You can even see of of those in a picture of the Still got the blues album with a Bluesbreaker RI amp. It is very important to look for the big black ones (older) and then look for the ones made in UK because later they moved the production to Taiwan and even they look the same I find them very different in tone being taiwanese models thin and sterile. Believe me, I had about 7 Guv'nors at once and sold all Taiwanese keeping only the Brits - Old black Bluesbreakers: Very good. Not a lot of gain in the same league of the Tubescreamer. They work specially well with Fender amps. I use them as the way to "Marshallize" the Fenders. I have tried many of them and sold everyone except above models. |

I've used a couple of the new pedals. I've tried the Echohead and the regenerator. They we're both pretty good considering the price. Each one had six modes.
The echohead could produce some pretty sweet delays including digital, analogue and reverse. The regenerator could produce some decent modulations and also some strange ones. I've since found better quality pedals that are less versatile such as a boss delay and MXR phaser, but if your new to effects I don't think you'd go far wrong as a starting point. |

Re: marshall pedals.
I've got the Guv'nor AND the Regenerator. Both are absolutely awesome. The Guv'nor includes a midrange control which you can really have fun with. The regenerator sounds incredible, too. It has an incredible sounding "step flange or step phase or step something" which is too cool. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is either/or. No mixing phase and flange or chorus and phase. One or the other...but that step thing is really cool. I don't think you can find that in any other pedal. Found it on special at GC's one day only sale on July 4th for $79.

Re: marshall pedals.
I like my modded Marshall Guv'nor II very much.
I just pulled out C22, to give the treblecontrol a better range and cut out the dependace between volume and treble. Besides of that, it sounded like you would take away a blanket from the cab - it really opened up and started to sound british. Because of that, i call it the Marshallmod ![]() |

Re: marshall pedals.
Now if you can find a Marshall Shredmaster on ebay....
I've got a Marshall Reflector reverb. I tested it against the Holy Grail, and several other reverbs in that price range. It's the best in the $118 area. The Guv'nor 2? I thought about it. Decided against it -- already had something similar, and then got handed something better. |
