Bixonic Expandora
I've been on a ZZ Top listening binge lately and I think it's only natural I've been interested in an Expandora for the past 2 weeks.
It's now over as I've just came across a pretty good deal, I couldn't pass it up so I bought it. What I've found interesting, apart from the fact that the master of tone Billy Gibbons uses 6 of these, is the different settings and apparently large tonal possibilities. You can get crunch, OD, distorsion and with some "forbidden" settings a mean fuzz. Talk about hours of fun! So any Expandora fans around here? |

Hi,
I demoed one of those stomps in Santa Cruz Starving Musician store. I put it through a Marshall JCM and used a Malmsteen strat and I'd be damned if I could get a good tone from that box. I found it to be very sterile. Maybe it was a bad battery... Awesome you found good tones from it though, right on! |

Really? Too bad, what model did you try? There are three of them: the one with the OD/Dist/Fuzz switches inside, an other one with the switches outside and a third one with no switches but 4 red buttons and LED's:
![]() I have the second one with the switches outside, I think it's really good, real nasty and dirty tones but I heard the last one is not that good, maybe that's the one you tried out? |

Hi,
I demoed the one with the red writing and the switches on the outside of the box. The one I tried, not only was the tone sterile, I didn't get any type of good grind-age from it. It was less than a Tube Screamer... which leads me to believe that the battery was on it's way out. Maybe I should try another one, specially since it give a great fuzz (from what I've heard). Do you know what's in there in the way of transistors and such? Thanks. |

Hi, yeah, if that thing didn't give you more gain than a TS, it's not normal! You should definitely try an other one. Just to be sure.
It's really versatile, from crunch to fuzz, the difference between the OD and distorsion settings is pretty subtle but it's there and that pedal "growls". I've searched a long time for that growl, really similar to the tone on ZZ Top's "Rythmeen" album. The fuzz, I can say too much about it because, actually, it's the first fuzz I've owned so I can't compare but I really like it, it's pretty wild. It's actually one of my favourite setting on the pedal, hours of fun. Quote:

Re: Bixonic Expandora
I have a Bixonic Expandora. It's brilliant. The Reverend Willy G may have 6 of them but that's so he can set them all differently. They are a very versatile pedal and compact too.
