Re: What kind & gauge strings
Thanks Mate,
I tried the bloody coated ones, hated the sound and the way they felt. Don't use fast fret, makes me feel like I'm doing something I'm supposed to doing LOL! My Picato strings last quite long for me, but I can only get them from the UK. D'addario last ok but don't sound as nice as the Picato's do.

Re: What kind & gauge strings
Been using Ernie Ball Power Slinkys,.11-.48, ever since they first came out, used regular Slinkys before that. I never break em,I change em about every other gig or after quite a few hours of rehearsals. I tune Dstandard,Cstandard, dropC,dropBb. I got an endorsement for D'addario once and I gave them to my other musician buddies top use. My tech is a sadist and keeps trying SIT,DR,etcetc on me to see if I like em. Nope. I make him take em right off and get my PS's back on there. I likes what I like...

Re: What kind & gauge strings
How do you guys like round core strings?
I'm scared to stop using my Ernie Ball Hybrid Coated Titanium RSP Strings because of all the features that are built into them. These babies last long and keep their brilliance! Although the custom gauges are pretty flexible alone, the Coated/Titanium are a little harder/stiffer than the normal string set because of all the preservation. Another downside to all of the features is it almost tends to sound too bright and don't sound warm. The Dean Markley Vintage on the other hand would be a striped down version string with round core (better bending, but worse tuning stability). Do any of you guys have experience with round core and would it give me a nice bell like tone but still with some bite? ...Or would I be crying back to my expensive 10 dollar strings? |

Re: What kind & gauge strings
DiAdarrio 9-42 or GHS Boomers 9-42. Probably gonna try some tens when these run out as the high ends seem too tinny.

Re: What kind & gauge strings
Whatever came on the guitar is still on there. They are really lite but do not sound that good anymore. I did not know you were supposed to change them. The guitar is a Les Paul I got in '86. I gues my string are vintage.

They are 1986 strings and are still there? Your purpose/quest in life has begun; WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT BRAND THEY ARE. Just think, strings that don't break for 24+ years. ![]() I NEED THOSE STRINGS!!!

Re: What kind & gauge strings
anybody tried Harley benton strings??
Ive been using them for a while now and they are good. they compare to daddarios anyday but 1/4 the price!!!! I change strings in every 2 weeks(not because of harley benton strings, with all strings since I break them easily and I sweat like a pig!!) so the price of the HB's is a real good deal for me..

Re: What kind & gauge strings
OMG. Your strings are older than my kids. Those strings have been on since Reagan was president. Have you ever cleaned the fret board?

Re: What kind & gauge strings
I just switched from D'addarios 10-46 to GHS boomers 10-52. I am not pleased. I think that I will be switching back. these strings just have a very clunky sound to them and dont sustain well. Something just feels cheap about them.
I'm thinking about trying some of ernie's balls. Haha, but seriously, I am.

Re: What kind & gauge strings
Preference - DR Pure Blues 11's...convenience - GHS Boomers 11's because every store stocks them.
