    -A Strat neck survey-

Which neck do you think has has more spank, quack, or funk... or whatever you want to call it?

My experience are the maples for sure!!!

The title is misleading. It should read "Which fretboard has more spank". Only one of your choices is an actual neck wood.............from literal meaning. :agreed:

If you’re that easily mislead, blame your upbringing.

Hang on, Ritchlite has been relegated to “other” status? Up there with particle board and rough sawn driftwood?!?!

    Peace

I've got no maples, just 3 rosewoods and one ebony. The ebony is the spankiest, but it is the only set-neck too!

I have only tried maple and rosewood. Maple definitely has a bit more definition and slighly brighter. Not much really though. I noticed a bigger difference with an all roasted maple neck only that was brighter but thinner which ended up with slightly less punch when voiced naturally. Nothing you couldn't dial out with a responsive EQ.

I think with roast maple they often TRY to make it as un-mapley as possible, since that started out as an exploration into rosewood alternatives... with the wide variety of maple types available, it might well be that the selection criteria for maple-for-roasting is entirely different from that for gloss-encased-blonde-maple fingerboards and nekkid maple

Heh, I'm offended! We call it the "Brain Housing Group" in the Corps, not cranium.

I always knew the maple's had the spank. But a recent recording with an Ebony strat I had made by Tolvanen guitars with Kinman pickups were spanky too in a different way. This is what inspired this thread.
